Bad night Friday 16/11/2011

Me and my dad headed down to the slab about 4:45, Got set up and had our first couple of casts with no problems. Then came the wind, rain and hailstones, Rod and stand nearly went over a couple of times but I was close enough to stop them. Then the wind got really strong blowing straight in our faces so we couldn't see a thing, Dads rod went over then seconds later mine hit the deck.. That's when we decided to call it a night, caught no fish at all.

Got home to find most of the rings on my rod smashed in, one of them almost flattened :( Dads rod survived but he got some pretty bad scrapes on his reel.

Not the best of nights it has to be said.. Wrong place, wrong time, wrong weather!

Yeah, the strong Northerly was the last thing we were expecting. Rain, hail, snow no problem, but with the wind, no fun at all. Looks like a dear do for the repair to Mark's rod but we'll get it sorted, it won't stop him for long.
We were beat tonight but............We'll be back!!!!

just wasnt your day, great weather though...

just wasnt your day, great weather though...

Wrong place, wrong time, wrong weather!

A think you mean 'Right place, right time, right weather'. There's nowt better than casting ya rod into a northwesterly wind for those Cod, or any wind for that matter (except flattulence! :D:D:D)

It's all part of winter fishing mate, you have to brave the elements, problems and etc if you are to succeed. The whiting have been going daft where u were fishing.

Well done on at least getting out and trying, obviously just wasn't your day, hopefully many more sessions to come for ya, with hopefully less mishaps. ;) :)

Unlucky you 2 Marks, better luck next time lads, my youngun tried the milldam today from 1-ish, he came in soaked to the skin at 18:30, hats off to the lot of yas fishing in that weather.

And watch your step lads if anyones walking on the pier in the morning, as i was walking off the slab was like an ice rink with all that rain water freezing !.

try a bag of stone or a bucket of water to hang on ur tripod . it will keep it a bit more stable in high winds:)

You're right mate. Wouldn't take much effort to hop over the wall onto the beach and fill a bag with sand and stones. You live and learn.
The wind was coming straight at us so apart from having trouble watching the rod tips it wasn't really affecting the stability of the rods, but then it started gusting really strongly. With our heads turned to the side we did not see the rods go over just heard the clatter. I love my fishing but that was savage amusement for me.
