Bad run continues SSP 19/12

After 2 blanks in a row at Seaham and Roker me and my mate fished the first Gate at SSP for a few hours after work Wed evening this week. Fished 3 hours up from low tide but sadly just crabs again and no proper bites. Fishing big cocktail baits of Lug, Runnydown and Frozen Crab on 3/0 pennels.
After a good first summer of shore fishing catching loads of fish, and my first size codling on the same tactics a few weeks ago, I wonder what we are now doing wrong. Tried short (50yds) and long (for me, maybe 90 to 100yds) but nothing. Not a touch apart from the inevitable crabs and knocks from I guess little fish.
Any ideas what we are getting wrong would be most welcome. We thought the tide would be too big for the river, and had wanted to go out to the 44 mark but the gates were closed and it looked dodgy to me with the sea brewing up.
Need to get back on track.

It's just the way it goes but you could try different rigs and try 2/0 hooks just try any thing you can to get a fish if the 3/0 Pennel not getting you bites

un lucky m8 i wentr four session blanking so waS OVER THE MOON WITH 5 FISH THE OTHER DAY NO SIZED COD YET BUT BSTILL HOPING THIS WEEKEND

Drop down to 1/0 or 2/0 to maybee hook some whiting and smaller fish, the 3/0 s will prob be to big for them .Use the best/freshest bait you can and keep trying.

At the end of the day it's called fishing, if we were lucky enough to get a fish every session it would be called catching!!

thats spot on like moanalot,wouldnt be the same if you caught every time,just had a run of 5 or 6 blanks ended on sat with a 6lb 9oz cod,well worth the wait,just keep plugging away mate,theyll come.

i need a good sesh to restore my faith and confidence , not had a decent fish this winter yet , and its not for the want of trying. even a bite now and again would be a blessing tbh . i guess im not the only one.

U sometimes just hav to keep soildering on and putting the hours in and they will come,things haven't been great for me either but my one fish of any size has been a PB of 8lb!

Could also try razorfish and muscles in your cocktail baits aswel mate. Thats the kind of dislodged shell fish the cod come in for a free meal on after a heavy sea.
If at first you don't succeed try and try again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again!!
