Bailiffs

Was speaking to a lad on Roker pier on Sunday night, and he was saying a Bailiff turned up when he was fishing the rathouse, told him to throw the eel back that he's caught, showed him his badge etc, are these tossers now going to pester the life out of us sea fishermen I wonder ???

Eels are protected by law now and its illegal to keep them this applies to all fresh or salt water anglers aswell as commercial anglers due to thier number reclining, seems strange a bailiff to be the pier unless someone has put a report in about someone targeting them.

At the same time its nice to see this happen when you think of all the foreigners these days that are taking anything and everything that swims

a hope he gets on roker every night, all the sardines ect what folk take is a disgrace,at the end of the day its only the folk what keep the tiddlers what have to worry ie when the small tommy codlings are in force, keep legal size fish and he cant bother yous end of story lads,;)

Took the bairn Winkle picking in Summer up boulmer when we come off 2 fisherys officers showed badges and checked our bucket :o
Personally got no problem with this but a did mention they should be on piers and that more cos the amount of undersize fish being kept is ridiculous
They said they were aware of this and you will see more ov us on piers and popular marks in future :)
They went about there business in the right manner and we had a canny little chat !
This can only be a step in right direction for conservation in all my 25 years plus fishing first ones av ever come across :o
As said those that are keeping undersize fish will b the ones with the problem with it :D

Just blokes doing there job, lets hope we see more of them in the future, just a word of warning regarding crab cart as its illegal to use any part of uncooked brown crab as bait now after the introduction of a new bylaw and the same blokes can prosecute if they find you using it .....

Get them on every mark for me, if people can are going to keep underside if and protected species then there needed. Could do with half a dozen of them up at torness and a bus load on every pier over the summer.

whats next a rod license for the sea !!!

It's coming that's for sure,when I don't know.

To me it maybe a good thing because if you gotta pay for something then you would expect to get something back in return for your money.

As far as people such as bailiffs checking angler's bags for under size fish and other non legal shell fish I would welcome this with open arms because I have seen angler's killing and taking under size fish often, and also other people that's got no interest in angling killing and taking under size fish if you know what I mean.

I'd have no objections to baliffs checking anglers bags. I only ever take what I'll eat for the pot, and only if it is size.

Really annoys me when I see people taking everything they catch, no matter what the size, and leaving rubbish all over the place. As the people who frequent the marks for fishing anglers should take responsibility for the state they leave it in.

I use to go to the mull of galloway on a frequent basis, and on the last few trips, we took 4 -5 black bin bags of other peoples rubbish away. P*sses me right off, and the last few trips we have gone to less frequented marks.

dont think lambtonworm knows what he is talking about. Brown crab from a crab supplier of legaly court crab IS ok to use for fishing bait or anything you want .

I'm a bit confused about this law as it says you cant use edible crab as bait but cart is a by product of crab which is used as food. Does this also mean you cant use this part which is seen as waste aswel? Wonder if is slightly cooked could this also still apply and how cooked is cooked? Seems a little wooly

bring then

bring then

nice to hear of baliffs checking out the under size and illegally takin of fish but would like to see them more frequent of checking fish specially in summmer when the taking of under size coli.,s and thge mistreating of fish is rife and if it helps to stop thi abuse it can can only be good for the angling scene , also would like to see ltter wardens and police patrolling piers and jettys etc to stop the numptys spoiling it for the rest of us

nothing to be confused about Darren m8,cart is not a by product ,its the uncooked meat from the inside of the crab the perfectly edible part when cooked the only unusable part of the crab is obviously shell and its gills,as for how cooked is cooked well not sure anyone can answer that ...

The 'anglers' that will get caught keeping undersized fish are the ones who'll claim poverty and pay their £100 fine over 2 years. Hopefully a licence will employ more bailiffs to monitor our coastline and deter those who take undersized fish.

Edible crab cannot be used for bait according to IFCA im sure I wouldn't swear by it mind but I'm sure I read it in my shellfish permit booklet, just going o check but will let you know,Dave
