Hi Guys,

Which shops locally can be relied on for lug/rag/squid/etc? Preferably south of the tyne, but I will pay for the tunnel if I have to :p .

Any help appreciated

Edit: Maybe I should be more clear! I need a local shop that can sell me bait, rigs and all the rest of the stuff Im gonna need for my first trip out [prob JFK] and can give good advice on what to buy and quantities.

TIA
Paul :)

Just did a quick google and came up with.

Rutherfords Angling
125 Roker Avenue, Sunderland - 0191 565 4183

Fishing Republic - Fishing Republic - fishing tackle megastores carp, coarse, predator, game and sea products.
Woodbine Street, Sunderland - 0191 567 9770

The Trading Post
40 Hylton Road, Sunderland - 0191 565 4626

Thanks mate,

I understand the merits of Google, unfortunately only customer experience tends to indicate whether their interested and helpful to customers.

But thanks for your input

I find trading post really helpful. Davey is a really canny lad who always offers advice. He always has cracking bait aswel and you get a very good amount for your money compared to some other places. Obviously like every tackle shop loyalty counts and the more you get to know the people the better it gets for you lol

Thanks guys,

On my way to The Trading Post, found a tackle shop in Southwick, got everything I needed.....£90 later......

Now for spaces on the JFK....

Fishermans locker ;) Good crack good info good prices, and unlike "some" other dealers look after the first timers (to their shop) just as much as their regulars. No pop intended :p

At this time of year I wouldn't go too daft on bait for boat fishing, should be plenty mackeral about, I'd maybe take a couple of boxes of squid just in case.

Good Luck!

Cheers for that Kieth, too late was the cry though :(

Bought some rag, squid and mussel...didnt break the bank fortunately, all part of the learning curve i suppose.

JFK tomorrow...cant bloody wait :D :D :D

squid and mussel will refreeze - just bundle the rag on to the hooks in big bunches if you want to get your moneys worth before using macky

Really! That surprises me that macky is enough. I just hope I also havnt wasted a fortune on daylights/hokkais as well.

Am I gonna be ok using daylight/hokkais with mackeral. Please tell me yes!...lol

Paul

chunks of mackerel tipping off the daylites and hokkais will serve you just fine

but if you're struggling with bites don't be afraid to lash some mussel on to see if that tempts them or even a strip of squid or even the head tipping off

long strips or big chunks of macky on the bottom hook with the other hooks masked with some sort of bait - anything remotely bare and silver will lead you to catching lots of mackerel if they're about in numbers

tackle shops

tackle shops

Hello,

The tackle shops I go to and can recommend are, Frasers in Gateshead, Reelsports in South Shields, Rutherfords In Sunderland and N.e.t.s. at Ryhope. If you have an important trip coming up then it is best to pre-order bait but all these shops sell frozen too so you will usually get bait at one of them.

A bit late now that you are sorted but this may be useful for the future.
Good luck on your trip tomorrow.

Regards Ian

Would,nt worry to much about the bait. You can stick a shad on,use hockeyes with mackeral or even a ripper.
I take a usually take a cool box if its red hot to keep my bait fresh.
If your lucky enough to nail some Macky on the trip you are laughing-its great bait.
Shads near wrecks are very good as big fish eat the little ones. A shad is an imitation small fish with a hook in it.

Mick.
