Just wondering if some of the places I used to regularly fish still get fished? No-one seems to mention these places anymore

Last time I fished the flat rock up there was about sixteen years ago, used to be plenty good sized fish caught, one 28lb if I recall, but it dropped off about that time.

Only ever saw 1 cod from balcary it was 7/8 pounder if I remember right, but mountain loads of doggies & big huge flatties like dustbin lids.
Fox snout.... Head through kirkudbright town centre then turn right & over the bridge (think it was a711) then turn left signposted for borgue bay
When road splits 2 directions and you see the bay infront of you, keep left (right would take you to caravan site. Good site for weekend fishing trips & has a boat launch ramp) follow the dirt track and snout is in front flat rock on the left is also good,
There's a good variety of fish to be caught up there
Conger, bull Huss (occasionally), doggies, small tope, gurnard, pollock, the odd cod, thorn back rays
& probably loads more
Had some great fishing trips there & intend on doing loads more this summer
& hopefully get some photos like the one on here

Thanks mate. As I recall it is signposted Ross Bay and the road just comes to an end at a farmhouse with Ross Bay on the left. Which way do you walk from there?

Flat rock, As I recall, Head towards rascarrel to the Balcary Hotel car park, and then walk up the hill over fields towards the point, you see where people have been walking, keep following the tracks to the top or point, there was a post shaped like an arrow near the top, the path from there will take you to the flat rock, down to the left.

From the pic attached it's the 3rd rocky point from Ross
I dnt think you can park now beside the dirt track where the grain silo was but it was the rock straight in front of you over the field

Sorry if this is a daft question but I think I might have been looking in the wrong place, is it the 3rd point north (clockwise going round the bay) from Ross ?

Depends which way you come from but basically your looking for the point that goes out to sea further than the rest of the rock marks it's a steep (ish) walk & quite a steep rock mark to fish off
The bottom is mixed with mostly sandy bottom but tackle losses are quite high, there's other marks close by think one was called Jamie's point & the Manx both are just as good & at times better, I usuall walk from brighouse bay side & just follow the path.
It's hard to park now at Ross farmer is bit of a dick if he can't get his trailer past
I'm planning a fishing trip very soon anyone is welcome to tag along

I have a navigation chart somewhere showing depths etc there's also a few wrecks close to shore ill dig it out later & scan it onto here
We used to fish from a small boat launched from borgue or brighouse

Suppose when the fish stocks collapsed in the Irish Sea ,some years ago people got tired of the place not catching
