just been reading local paper it seems they have planning permission to revamp barmston pond its about time things can only get better, if it happens. wot do you think cheers.

well mate, you can only fish for pike using fly gear,no dead baiting or float fishing for the pike, its mostly going to be a trout fishing venue, still have to pay £3.50p , and carp fishing you can use bolt rigs etc , last time i looked at barmston it was a proper mess, that was a few month ago ,hope they do clean it up, i dont mind paying ,its the fly fishing only for pike i dont like ,lets see what happens...............

Were you reading the same paper I was? I saw an article centred on a campaign by local residents and anglers who have fished the pond for years for free only to now be facing stupid prices and restricted access. There is hell on over there about it. For selfish reasons I would love a Trout fishery on my doorstep but no way will I fish it after the way the locals have been treated during "negotiations". I'll get some more details off my mate and post here later.

So its wrong for someone to invest in a water to make it a cleaner safer place to fish and expect a return for his investment ?
Lets face it you cant park your car safely to fish barmston, the place is a mess with discarded rubbish,Its a local haunt for chavs drinking and taking drugs who persecute the wildlife with airguns for a laugh.
Most of the fish in there have been stolen from many club and private waters over the years.
The only locals that are unhappy are the ones that stretched their boundaries on to the lakes land without permission or payment and the local chavs.

I have also, fished this pond in the past and had some tench out.
I know several years ago some body else wanted to take the pond on and stock, but had a report done by the EA and from what i gather permission was not granted to drain the pond because the silt is conminatied with asbestoes as this pond was a cooling poo for cape insulation when they manufactured asbestoes.

So the only way to clean a place up is to get someone to buy it and keep their definition of undesirables out and charge the rest of us. God help the piers and promenades of the NE.

Exactly my point,if the locals cant respect the amenity they have then yes they will lose it,which is what is happening in all aspects of fishing, wether sea fishing or fresh water fishing.
It is every anglers duty to do their bit, wether they made the mess or not,and if you see someone jeopardising that priveledge by leaving litter, lighting fires disturbing the peace etc and you turn a blind eye thinking someone else should sort that out. you only know what the outcome will be.

The lake was never meant to be there for fishing,It was never legally stocked or open for public fishing.sorry but you have lost no rights they were never there in the first place.

Are you suggesting that decent anglers are responsible for the actions of idiots if they do not take up arms and immediately confront and sort them out. I suggest you are one of 2 things - 10 foot tall with a licence to kill or do not fish in public at all. This privatising and charging will obviously and easily sort out a lot of the abuse of these places but at what cost. The answer to these problems caused by ignorant anti-social fools is not to fence off places and allow only the great and the good in. It's a bit more complex, involves a bit more thought and will not make anyone any money (It will cost a bob or 2)

What exactly were you hoping for,the council or the environment agency to wave a magic wand to invest time and money to police the lake on private land, dream on.
Typical examples, the lake at folingsby park, great expense to landscape the area to turn an eyesore in to a wildlife sanctuary, some people decided to plunder all local lakes of fish to stock the lake, then decided to fish the lake leaving litter and cans, result a six foot fence being built around it to keep everyone out.the said people up in arms that they can no longer fish it.

testoes lake again created as a wildlife sanctuary, illegally stocked with fish from local club lakes again rubbish left fires lit etc, result all fishing at the lake to be banned, until lakeside club took it over, with all regular anglers up in arms that they now have to pay a membership fee to fish it.

The walkway in south shields again lots of money spent creating a nice place to fish, litter left, anglers swearing and shouting through the night, relieving themselves up walls is it any wonder the locals would like nothing better than having all fishing banned from outside their homes
.
The point is we all know it goes on everywhere and mutter to ourselves that we,re all going to be banned from a fishing spot if this carries on,but everybody expects somebody else to put it right but not them,we should lead by example not simply roll over and let it be.

p.s Im 6ft I fish lots of places and am very active in the sport, often picking up litter balliffing waters and always turn up at work parties. pity a lot more anglers didnt do the same.

barmston pond

well aparently they are going to build a shop an there will be a warden hope he's gonna be 24 7 one cos i reckon it will be burnt down or burglarized to bits within a week of opening

Barmston residents are very unhappy at what is happening with the pond. People are aware of the history of this place and how it is being used at the moment - low level anti-social behaviour, littering and alledgedly planning permission possibly being bent (Oh and the fishing, courting, dog walking, duck feeding, paper reading etc.). OK, Sell the gaff, fence it off and charge a bomb to get in and while your at it close the door when you get to France. Do you think for one second it has been purchased to benefit the community, bio-diversity and anglers. It's been done sneakily, people have been lied to. There's plenty less contentious places to fish. If he gets his way let him fence the place off, look after the wildlife and stock it with wonderful fish - then let them thrive away from human interference, no rubbish, no anti-social up themselves elite anglers
