Only thing I can think that you\'re describing, is the use of a 3 way swivel - 1 eye attached to your line, one eye for the hook snood and the other eye has the weight attached by a length of line.
This is the type of rig Stores uses for the rock marks and is illustrated in his book \"The Codling Crouch\".
I guess, if your fishing rocky or kelpy areas, the less you use on your rigs by way of swivels, beads, crimps, clips, etc, the less likelihood of anything fouling and becoming snagged.
