Tony,

I think you have the RT Bass combo it\'s good value for the money (I got the RT Bass rod in a closing down sale for £10) I would say it has quite a soft through action so you won\'t get any distance on it but it will be kinder to soft baits.

If you can scale your main line down to 10/12 lb and fish cleanish beaches / estuaries try it as a flatty/whiting rod. If you catch 2 lb of flounder/plaice on it you\'ll know about it. And a Bass might come along as a bonus !

Give the big or little beach a go.

Didn\'t get it as a combo - it\'s the Titanium Sea Bass teamed up with an Okuma Undertaker reel (as recommended by Billy B.)

It\'s the big beach I\'m gonna try - it\'s been a popular spot in recent years. When the surf\'s up, it really looks promising there.

chris hughes will it be imposible to fish or just hard as i have taken a day of work and bought loads of new spinners plugs and lures i`m itching to try if not worth while can anyone recommend a mark worth trying in these conditions over the weekend

Chris,

When you have severe gales (up to 70 mph) coming at you almost face on, throwing any thing at it will be like \'pissing in the wind\'.

Also such weather result in low barometric pressure which in turn can result in up to 2m tidal surge i.e. low water could be 2m higher than normal, so you may not be able to get to the mark.

Well after reading this thread, reading Bob Moss\' book, that new rod keep winkin\' at me every time I go past it and the lovelly weather we had this afternoon - I went out for a couple of hours tonight with it

I wasn\'t expecting to catch owt........and I wasn\'t disapointed...lol

But that\'s not the point, really.

I realise that the sea wasn\'t right, the weather wasn\'t right, I was just casting and hoping and I probably left it a bit late - giving me only a couple of hours (had to fit a new washing machine when I got in from work - so I left later than I\'d anticipated.

The POINT is that I thoroughly enjoyed that couple of hours. I\'d NEVER used a light rod and tackle before - what a completely different game. Although I\'d originally started out fishing using a fixed spool reel, I found that on the 1st cast, I\'d actually forgotten to open up the bale arm.......ooops....lol. But what the hell, it didn\'t matter - got it sorted, then it all came back to me.

As has ofen been said on here......fishing isn\'t really about catchin\' fish....it\'s about being \"out there\", enjoying TRYING to catch \'em.

have to say the whole lure fishing thing has me hook line and, well sinker.

I\'ve had more fun and caught more in the last 3 years spinning & plugging of the rocks than owt else. No bait to worry about, travel light and chance yer arm.

bait fishing has kind of taken a back seat for me now. S\'pose I\'ve been lucky enough to fish (IMHO) some of the best water in britain.

Roll on easter. Hope I\'m there to witness the first good mackeral you catch with the rod, from that intial thump when you think you\'ve snagged to when it starts moving again.

Tick 2 or 3 daylites on, 28 -40g spinner on the end and chuck it off the pier - 3 mackeral at once on light gear is just the best fun

thought i`de go on a recce to heysham got there just before low tide to get to know the area before i fished it to my horror there were gill nets allover tied to the out flow fence and on the beach both sides of the out flow then i saw a man walking towards the nets in waders so i asked him caught out he said not in the last few days but loads over the last few weeks i think weve got most ov em
iasked him how many of them were under the legal limit and he got agresive so ithanked him for his contribution to the conserving the dwindiling fish stocks around our coast his repply after noticing my accent was f**K your not even from round these parts

Chris i remember last year walking along the beach at Moss Yard South West Scotland,a small boat beached itself and the two lads jumped out and ran up the beach to get there trailer to pull it back,i walked towards them thinking they were pleasure fishing to ask \"you caught out\",lol,as i got up to them i asked the obvoius question \"you caught much lads\" the reply was a pleasant \"not much pal\" i then noticed the nets,i had a quick glance into there boat as they were hitching it onto the towbar,they had about six fish boxes very full, i did\'nt have my tape measure on me but i think they were on the small size to say the least,they were a couple of big laddies as well so i did\'nt pursue the subject lol.

I have not seen any fixed engines (in simple terms, nets fixed to the land) in the area. However, in the location we are talking about, the area is designated a Bass Nursery Area and any netting (all year round) of Bass from a boat is illegal, also any pleasure and commercial fishing from a boat using sand eel as a bait is illegal. I belive the area is well policed for such activities.

However, the rules regarding fixed engines are different. Provided the regulations regarding identification of the owner etc., are observed, then there is an open season between 30th Nov and 1st May, where such equipment can legally be used.

The reality is that this man was probably operating within the law, if not, he more than likely would have been caught.

Oh hum, we live in a so called democracy which allows such dubious practices to continue unhindered.

Sorry to go off topic, but talking of nets, I was at the caravan in North Yorks at the weekend and popped down the beach Saturday pm. I\'ve had 3-5lb bass from this beach many times. There was net at right angles to the beach, no more than 20 yards out at high water. From half water down, it would have been exposed. Is this legal?

Provided the nets (fixed engines) are set in accordance with the byelaws for the area (see http://www.neseafish.gov.uk) then it is legal.

Well I got myself a RT Superior 11 ft Bass rod today. Just a cheap model (£25) but it will suit what I wanted it for (1-3oz). Now I am just looking forward to trying it out. I am going to try it out on the beach it will be great with even a whiting on.

i can only give you a couple of schoolie bass marks where the odd 5lber will be thrown in, but still great fun on light tackle. depends on how far you want to travel.
fraisthorpe beach just south of bridlington in east yorkshire and walk past all the old concrete war defences, fish about 15 feet out if the tide is in, and about 30feet out if the tide is on the flat sand.
the other one is one of the furthest points north that it is silly........ dunnet sands in caithness :exclam:
we go there quite regularly now, again just under or just over size, but my other half had a nice bass breakfast the other morning.

Fished with my mate off Tunstall yesterday. We only got a couple of rockling but a guy 50 yards away landed a nice Bass around 3lb

Funilly enough the last bass I caught on Tynemouth sands was caught on the flood on a night just like that (although I was not as far in as that) and if we had stayed longer I am sure we would have caught more

cracking pictures. after watching a programme about the west coast of ireland a week or so ago i tentatively mentioned that i\'d love to go there for a week fishing to the reply \"why don\'t you\"?

have to take it it in a bit but thinking of september next year. anyone been and could suggest the more likely spots?
