just a thought lads,used to dig lug round the back of the pier,forage for peeler and mussel on the estuary side,has anyone actually fished it in the winter and summer,just a thought,any ideas?

I fished a few years back and it was very shallow.
It wasn't until I got back that someone told me I should have fished in the river part instead of the end of the pier.
Me and my mate got nowt you would be better going to Eyemouth instead.

Hi , new to the forum. Trying to get back into fishing with a bad back(been havin a laugh reading this site for a year now).
Anybody remember a booklet from the 70s that had loads of info on fishing marks from Berwick to the tees(was a water authority book I think).That said Berwick pier in winter was poor but the rock edges to the north side could give cod and coalies. Very shallow river mouth but must be worth a try in summer for bass(sandy beach to south , sandbanks in estuary).

I've fished it in the summer mate, coalies and flatties riverside like. If yer fancy digging lug on the other side again it is now hard work, It was once a great place for giant lug but now f****d, and it wasn't me, I only dug there once a year

I've always been fascinated by the Great British Coastline and I've been lucky enough to explore a great deal of it over the years. If you've ever wondered what's around the next headland or cove I hope this is of use to you.
With the help of the excellent site Geograph I've put together a few pics of the coastline from Dunbar in South East Scotland to Tynemouth pier in Tyne and Wear.
Beginning at the English border near Berwick we head South into Northumberland to the small village of Craster. Some places are good for fishing, others are just very interesting and well worth a visit. I can't claim to have fished from the whole of the coast but have at one time or another visited most of the places in the photographs...........enjoy.
Needles eye, Marshall Meadows, Berwick
Bang on the English border with Scotland is the stunning sea arch of Needles eye, I've never heard of anyone fishing here at all and it's most likely that there's no access onto the Needles eye. I have however had one or two decent days fishing in the boat only a few hundred yards from the cliffs, nice spot to visit anyway.

Berwick pier
There are a couple of miles of small sandy bays with rocky outcrops from the border to Berwick pier where you can dig a bit of lugworm, find a few peeler crab and possibly catch a few fish. The bay infront of the Berwick caravan site looks very interesting and I've heard you can catch a few fish from the rocks along there but personally I'd drive the few extra miles to Eyemouth for fish.
Never tried the pier but I've heard you can catch Codling from it when a bit of a swell is running. I'd expect catches to come from the North side where the lug beds are at high tide and possibly into the mouth of the River Tweed to. Plus Berwick is a nice little town with a market on a Saturday in the main street.
To the South of Berwick is Scremerston beach made up of rocky skeers and sandy beach, apparantly it can be really good here in the Winter for Codling, only a couple of miles out to sea is the famous Spittal Hurst a large area of rough ground that holds loads of Cod in the 2lb to 6lb bracket, well worth a day out on the Berwick charter boat 'On a Promise'.

Berwick pier can produce codling in the right seas. I have a caravan at Berwick and fish it now and again not a great deal in ŵinter odd cod but mainly whites flaties n colies. Hope this helps

north side in front of caravan park 3popular marks,southside in front of golf course any were you can get down to the rock edges,beware in wet condions very slippy black rock and when the sea is rough best in flat calm crystal clear water. davy.

What bait technique for off them rocks is there snags?
down from the north end of Eyemouth caravan site there's a kind of slab (you can't miss it), easy to get down to and easy fishin mate, deep water right in front of you so no chucking required. monster wrasse here plus plenty coalies and kelpies. chuck it out and you can get turbot, sole and mackies, great mark but can get busy in summer. best bait crab and lug

Had couple hours on Berwick pier this morning with no result then shifted to Eyemouth and had 3 mackeral just of the end off the harbour wall on the golf course side no big maybe 1lb mark. There was about 6 or 7 at Berwick and a never seen any of them land a fish. 2 fellas on the sand bank over the far side just as the river mouth comes in looked a better mark than the pier
