"Best fishing for 50 years"

Fished the Easington competition today from Horden, there must have been 200 anglers along the beach, I did not see any fish caught, except a small flatty and a whiting. But i'ts the "best season for 50 years" apparently. Well whoever's made these comments and the ministers who say that the fish stocks are recovering, actually, need to try fishing the once legendary beaches and cod marks around the country and find out what the situation is really like.

Well i think we should copy and paste the catch reports section and send it to the goverment regarding so called proposed rules/laws that hang sover every body who has anything to do with the sport.

not only is it the best cod fishing in 50 years the new sea angler says it is a cod boom on the front page what a joke.
i have spoke to anglers down south and they are getting a few fish but not the boom it says in sea angler.
up and down the country it is crap lads that went to arbroth at the weekend had nowt, It is the same on the west coast, wales etc

The fish seem to be concentrated in small schoals, that if you are lucky enough to hit on, the fishing can be great.

After reading 'The end of the line and how overfishing is changing the world and what we eat' the scientific explanation for why they are in small schoals is that the fish congregate together for safety when their numbers are at critical point, hence if you hit a patch on the beach....It is the best fishing for 50 years and also the reason that the commercials say that there are shedloads of cod, because their hi-tech gear shows up these concentrated shoals, so they can trawl them up!

best fishing!

best fishing!

To be fair lads, the fishing down on the kent coast has been the best for 20 years. I look onto this forum because I live in London (22 years now) but grew up in Newcastle and my parents are still there so fish the North East once or twice a year. The fish down here haven't been big, average 2.5lb probably, but get the tides and conditions right its been a codling a chuck. It's slowed a lot the last 3 weeks and the best is over now, but before christmas you were getting 10+ codling a session. Lets hope they get a taste for mussell and move up the east coast and you lads will get them at 4lb next winter.

I,ve fished loads this year and its been an absolute nightmare. I have had about 5 cod. Biggest 7lb 2oz,couple of 4lb ers and couple fillet size pound and a bit.And i,ve done some hard fishing this season.i,ve had 5 good sessions and on mixed ground in Jan alone.
The fishing has been CRAP. I mean nowt on the blast beach in a full sesh with two rods and some prime bait -whats all that about.
But i,ll still be there next Thursday hoping for a big fish and spending over 10 quid on bait to catch it.
