big fish little fish lol

Dunno Davy. I think it must\'ve been the last one in the tackle box when I was making me rigs up. The second double I got me pic in the Sea Angler mag and me Specimen badge earlier this year. SHows that you don\'t have to use meat hooks to catch a decent fish. Mind one of the lads in our club only uses 6/0\'s and 7/0\'s and he always has fish from small whitings and 1 1/2lb cod upto much biger ones. Look at a cods mouth front on and they\'re like the Sarlaac from the Return of the Jedi, with even small fish being able to take huge baits.

Here\'s your grandads thoughts.
Firstly I never fish with anything but a 4\'O on the beach- can\'t see any point - I caught a 4 oz poodler last weekend and a 12 lber last year (codling not poodler) on the same hook. The other double figure fish I have caught from the shore (6 I think) have all been caught on 6\' Os but the range of fish caught on them varies from 6 ozs to nearly 20 lb. If fish are hungry you\'ll catch them, if they\'re not then you have to improvise and if you\'re a comp angler I can see the benefit of changing your tactics. For me up for the weekend and hoping fora feed there is little point in targeting whiting or poodlers simply to catch.

I know what you are saying Stores, and a decent fish for the table is always nice, but I go fishing for the sport, to relax and a few hours peace and quiet. Personally, I\'d rather have a bit of sport with the small fish with one rod, and hope the biggie comes along on a spare rod than not catch. If I want to eat fish, I\'ll go to Morrison\'s fish counter. I\'d hate to calculate the cost per lb of the fish I\'ve taken over the years. I\'d hate even more to tell my wife the cost per lb.

I totaly agree wif Bob and Tony about the skipper aspect of the arguement THE RIGHT PLACE TO CATCH THE BIGGUN!! is his responsability but its then down to the angler and technich and tackle and bait !!!
But i must say that some skippers do better than others but that`s entirely down to local knowledge and experience........ :)
Its a on going tit4tat thing that i feel strongly about at the end of the day IF YOUR IN THE WRONG PLACE you stand less chance of producing the goods
Also knowing how to read the tides and winds to produce the best drift and approach to the wreck or reef as possible will maxamise your catches
With a good skipper the whole crew stand the same chance as the next bloke .........if they are clued up..lol
The boat its better big baits = big fish always
sometimes it applies to shore fishing ie location etc and species targeted
enough from me :)

I know what you mean chippy, anyway my opinion as far as hook/bait size is concerned .I work on the concept that you can almost get ya fist in a 2lb cods gob ,therefor a 4/0 pennel rig well baited shouldn\'t be a problem.Just my opinion and I\'ve caught plenty of small stuuf on the same rig ,whiting ,bass etc.
