I had planned on going to Roker Pier but was put off by the wind. Anyway feeling adventurous I decided to set off down the Blast and look for somewhere new. I had planned to press on to the Blast Ledge or even Hawthorn but took a wrong turn at the pond and ended up down on the beach. Got set up out of the wind next to the stack and started just as it was getting dark.

Straight away I was getting pulls and plucks on big baits but then the tip went over and a codling about 2lb was the culprit. Got 2 more near enough the same size down to low water then called it a day.

All caught on big baits of 4 or 5 blow lug, tipped off with Cart and a few mussels lashed around that. One of the fish when gutted had a piece of my Cart still on the hook in its belly. I had lost it on a snag the cast before.

That walk back is hard work mind! With my new Sundridge floaty suit on I was a bit warm when I got back to the car ;-)

So the hoped for bigger fish didn't show but (the walk aside) a pleasant session.

Should I have stayed on the top path longer to get to the ledge and/or hawthorn point ? up to the railway bridge I am guessing ? Any advice on that would be much appreciated.

Also what are the best tides for that mark. It was very snaggy once it emptied out at low water so I am guessing maybe high water could be better.

Well done with the coddie mate. The walk up the bank does ya nee harm. 2 of my mates moaned about it when we fished there but I didn't mind it.
