any advice on a good pair of above that are completely waterproof (other than walking in water:D) and warm, also, preferably availably locally. any advice greatly appreciated.

try sport and soccer in Sunderland next to Tesco got loads of boots in there and they do fishing ones as well, i opted for a pair of walking ones that are very warm and waterproof up to the top of boot and also come in handy for the lakes

Tf gear rock hoppers mate dry and warm and loads of ankle support for £40 you cant go wrong.go a size up though.
 
Have a look at the hi-tec para rubber boot neoprene lined really comfy and warm vibram soles for exl grip had mine about year can wear them any time winter or summer Hi-Tec International got mine from go out doors

I used Rockhoppers in Norway and no good. You much better of with muck boots. We walked on loads of damp spongy moss and the Rockhoppers leak eventually
