I use one for the fixed spool on the field , wrap the leader round the barrel 3 or 4 times instead of just once and then theres no chance of bending the spindle if you have the spool in the high position .

do you meen when the spool is fully out it can bend the spindle?.is it best to have the spool fully in ?
.if using a 80lb leader is it ok to still wrap round with the mono leader being quite thick

3-4 times is fine woth heavy mono leader me brothers used 60lb leader and not had any issues with it so would think 80 would be fine.

Yes its possible to pull the spindle out of line power casting with the spool fully extended and only trapped by once round as during the cast there is a sideways pull on the spool , putting it 3 to 4 times round the barrel eliminates this . Then you can hit the rod as hard as you like .
I use 80lb leader no probs .
