Just wondering if anyone has ever fished along there,my mate from work had a few hours there from the (very) old harbour wall, said it was lifting with Flounders and a few Plaice,he was only on a recce so did\'nt stay long,I\'d need to speak to him again for the exact location he fished but any help will do for now ;)

budle bay is lifting with flatties, go wading in the summer and you can stand on em

fished the north side of the bay, long walk in via ross links and the nudist beach(!) but as there\'s less people plodging on that side, the fish are closer in it would seem.

can be a bit wierd when you get a nice couple that wander over for a chat stark bollock naked!, still when in rome.... I suppose

before the mill was done up at warren mill fishing out of the back of there was good fun, little brownies one side of the bridge, flounders on the other

park somewhere near the mill on the bamburgh side and walk down onto the beach,

or from the north side park in the village of ross and walk over the dunes to the beach (about half an hour)

Top man Mark thanks,he parked at Ross btw and walked,I\'ll ask him about the Nudist Beach wondered why he was there ;)

Not sure that fishing is strictly allowed in Budle Bay itself. It\'s a nature reserve and is of international importance for wading birds, particularly bar-tailed godwits, and pale-bellied brent geese. Probably not so important in summer but best to avoid the mudflats in the bay itself. :(

Just copied this from Northumberland County Council website:

Please do not attempt to fish from the mud flats of Budle Bay and around Holy Island as these are National Nature Reserves. In addition, the tide floods at an alarming rate over the mud, often leaving nowhere to go for safety. Safe fishing from harbour walls is possible at Seahouses, Beadnell, Craster and Blyth but boats must always be given priority.

the only thing that is prohibited at Budle Bay is bait digging \"Wildlife and Countryside Act\" there are no restrictions on fishing regardless of what the warden or council tell you, but as you have been warned, watch the tides.

not 100% but I think the boundaries of the reserve don\'t include the north side of the bay/ross links bit, just the bay bit itself where the road curves around towards waren mill, could be wrong though, but can remember looking at the toursity map/info board type thing thats in the lay-by next to the bay,

you can see the bar at roos links that allows you to fish ri8ght into the gully towards the open sea or into the bay. At high tide fish from the ross beach into the hole behind the bar.

I\'m pretty certain though the the reserve is all the bit of the bay that is \'inland\' and dosn\'t cover the beaches

I\'m sure that\'s right Mark. Alan, whether fishing is actually prohibited or not it would still be responsible not to fish inside the bay where disturbance to wading birds is likely. Birds are sensitive to disturbance and have precious few safe areas. I\'ve never seen anyone fishing there when I\'ve been birdwatching so don\'t mean to suggest that it is a problem here but fishing shouldn\'t be encouraged in environmentally sensitive ares.

Only thought about it cos I thought that sounds like a nice place to fish and was thinking of going to have a look tomorrow. Just had a vague recollection of fishing being frowned on there.

on the subjecy of the rspb and frowned upon fishing....

when I were a lad we used to go fishing for ducks, size 6 hook and a big chunk of bread. local butcher used to give us 10 bob a brace!

you geta canny scrap off a 4lb mallard on light tackle!

Sea bird colonies are a very different thing from wader wintering grounds. Wasn\'t expecting to make a big thing of this but I was a birder long before I started fishing and know that anglers don\'t enjoy a great deal of respect from birders. I thought hard about fishing before I started and was lucky that I was introduced to it by a very responsible angler. The opinion of the birding fraternity is coloured by the actions of a small number of anglers who act without regard for other wildlife. I am sure no one on this website falls into that category but all I was suggesting is that at Budle Bay care should be taken about where (and when) you fish. Probably few people would think about fishing over the mudflats but I remembered the Council website and put it up for info.

\"Please do not attempt to fish from the mud flats of Budle Bay and around Holy Island as these are National Nature Reserves.\"

Mark\'s post shows clearly where there would be no problem fishing. I will be fishing there myself soon so am not suggesting that there should be no fishing but I know many people who would like to see fishing banned in quite a number of areas. Best not help them out when not necessary.

do not wish to get into an arguement about fishing/bait collecting and birds. I have had enough of it over the years at many meetings with various bodies and the week long Budle Bay enquiry. The disturbance factor is used on to many occassions to stop legitimate activities. And it was the birdies who where very vociferous against anglers at the Budle Bay enquiry. If you wan to fish anywhere in the Lindisfarne Nature reserve there is nothing stopping you, just be careful and responsible. No more comments from me

Thanks for all the replies lads, cool heeds etc.
My mate never said of any signs or wardens but I\'ll certainly mention it next week,I\'m a nature lover as well and I always take great care where I fish and respect the surroundings ;)

the whole budle debacle of years ago amused me no end with the birders cursing the anglers.... yet go to budle bay on a summers weekend and count how many anglers you see compared with chavs with dinghy\'s, screaming kids, buckets and spades and the acres of litter they leave behind

to be honest it never really crossed my mid to fish in the bay itself, I always like to see the sea \'proper\' when I fish, so ross was the natural choice for me

naked young women cavorting around me at the same time had no infulence on my descision either!

one thing worth adding though.... bait.

at low tide, the outer bit is liittered with empty razor shells and clams, so next time I go thats what I\'ll be taking as bait

Thanks for that info colossus, very seldom I give a hoot about the bird life as the marks I normally fish are only frequented by charva gulls and snaky cormorants and as far as I know not breeding grounds. (Apart for the Rathouse but that\'s a diferrent story)

I\'ll think twice now, before taking my tackle to Flamingo land.

Really never given it that much thought, will do now.

i remember fishing shields pier a few years ago and there was a bird just mosying about
then all of a sudden there was about 100 people running up the pier with their scopes
it was a red necked phalarope
i even got a photo
it was a great site to see
