Got the chance of a small fishing boat but have been told i need a day skipper liscence is this correct or a load of bull and also where can i launch it from around the blyth area, any help would be fantastic.

As far as i am aware you do not need any licence.

I mean look at them divvys on jet skis. If anyone should need any licence it should be them.

I had a holiday at Seahouses recently and cars with trailers are allowed to use the slipway for a nominal sum. I think its £30.

hi m8 i think there is a launch site at blyth marina but think you would hav 2 pay! i would ring up and ask first

nope, no licence needed, although might be worth while doing a course anyway, if you're completely new to it

you'll be struggling to find a slip in blyth, as far as I kno the slip there is still out of use

cullercoats beach is an option, seaton sluice harbour is another but restricted with tides

I think the slip at newbiggin is still in use

Aye do a course or at least take someone out who knows the ropes and can teach you.

Sunderland marina have a slipway and I think it can be used at all states of the tide for about £90 a year. Davem has a permit and I'm sure will post the details here.

Oblickta is correct.

You dont need a license but get advice before you head out or take someone with you who knows the score.

I have a permit for seaton sluice but its a tidal launch and THE worst reverse you will ever come across without exception!. Its 3 hours either side of high tide to be on the safe side.
I only ever fish it across a tide so I launch when the tide comes in and come back on the next rising tide. You need to contact the localcouncil for a permit and key...its about 25 quid a year and prooof of insurance is required.

I also have a permit for sunderland. This must be the best slip in the ne. An all tides slip with no need for a 4x4 but some areas are slippy due to algea. I watched a corsa recover a 15 footer last time there with no problem.

There are several other launch sites...take a look at www.boatlaunch.co.uk for details but they are not always up to date but does give contact numbers.

Hope you get the boat...you wont regret it ...but you will never ever have any spare money again :)

Cheers
Dave

buying a boat

thank's for all the advice, that's the top thing about this site you get more help in a couple of hour's than in day's of asking mate's,davem2005 could you tell me where to get insurance and giz some detail's or do i just try any ins company p.s done a bit of boat fishing but still think i should try a coarse as iv alway's just sat with rod in hand never driven.
cheers' again.....

Boat Insurance From Cover My Boat about as cheap as you'll find

the course is worthwhile, but equally worthwhile IMHO is to go out with someone to show you the ropes

one thing about launching at sunderland or south shields, you can always just go for a pootle up the river to get a feel for things

Insurance is a minefield.

You need a minimum of third party to satisfy most slipway requirements.

I think you will find that council slipways will ask you to prove insurance details..but commercial slips wont....this about sums up how valuable this cover is.

I got mine this year online...cant remember the site but it was under 50 quid for the year.

Budget on between 50 and 100 quid a year depending on the level ofcover you feel u need.

Cheers
