Buying reels from USA

Have any lads on here bought reels from USA ? They are a good bit cheaper than here even with postage but i was wondering if there are hidden fees when the reel comes here to do with customs etc.? Any advice would be appreciated thanks.Bri.

Import duty charges. Think it's around 10% of the value of item

Sure everything from the usa now carries import tax. Used to be just hitty missy if ya got stung with it but now its every time. Factor that into what ya pay for ya reel and ya dont save much £££

So how does import duty work them Adam? Say you buy a £200 reel and its all parcelled up how do they know the value without opening all parcels up ? or does the seller have to declare whats in parcel and value?

A think the seller has to declare what it's worth but if you message the seller and ask him to declare it say it's )200 hel declare it as only 100 most sellers on eBay will do it

yes som may send it as a gift or stating less value but some wont as if anything happens to it they only get the declared insurance back

Works out about £28 for a penn trq value of about £220

I bought an avet couple year ago for 140 quid and had it couple months and 38 quid import tax fee demand dropped through the letterbox

They even charge you duty on the postage sometimes.

I bought a release reel sept last year saved £100 no customs,,,,ive just bought a tld reel handle upgrade 29$ customs hit me £4.19 and post office set handling charge added £8...

it's a gamble

I went to buy a £38 bottle of flex coat from amazon - bargain I thought.
Delivery, handling charges & import tax - final price £122!!! Amazon do include everything at the checkout so ya get to see it but i nearly fell over, especially when I never pressed a single button and the computer ordered it by its self!!!
good job the Mrs is good with computers and managed to cancel it :red:

I just had to pay DHL for a parcel I had ordered from China, the charge was made up of tax and handling by dhl they stated I had to pay up front to get it released from china it was funny when it was delivered less than 24hrs later

you could have a problem with any warranty as well if you don't pay the tax and duty. I got a camera lens sent from the USA and wanted the 3 year warranty so paid tax/duty but still saved £300. If you don't pay the tax/duty your warranty will be useless here.
