I really cant understand this ,i hear of a good few people who can to cast 220+ yards pendulum style who take part in casting competitions but really dont bother with fishing side ,seems like fishing as a hobby has taken a different direction these days, is the prize money really that good ,bit of a waste of talent in a way.

Dont cast for comps, but sometimes if the fishings crap i will stick a plain lead on and try and perfect my self taught casting technique:D:D never really measured it cos i cannot swim very well, but my casting starts off poor at the start of the season and i end up casting pretty good by the time spring arrives but i can see theres a bit of an addiction there and combine that with competetive spirit and you have a new hobby.

its cos there bonfires are pi ss e d on mate when they see how far they get with a decent bait up on ,;):D

I think someone with who has been casting 200+yrds with a sound technique on the field will still hit a baited rig further than someone with an unsuitable rod and a bad technique.

Alot of field casters know how to load the rod up and send the bait to where they want it but its also about being in the right place at the right time.;)

i know people who shoot guns at targets but dont go hunting .casting is a sport on its own
good point mate! Maybe one day it will be part of the olympic games ,and them little 4 foot koreans will be blasting lead out 300 yards with a split cane rod and alvey reel...lol:d

well if they tried to throw my bait up a good distance, theyed av a good owld crack off matey:Dpmsl ,rock marks are totally alien to them aswell[wadn dare] with their 12 pund line ,;):Dlol

Was fishing off the old pier today, roker, and off the end the wind was that strong you could not cast well, the wind was behind you but the pressure on the rod whilst putting some swing into it 80 yrds max

Why would they have a good crack off ? Most/all tournament lads know about setting a reel up for maximum distance ( should they require it ) to suit the conditions with what ever size of bait , whether thats using 12lb line on 6500's or 30lb on 535/slosh 30's.
Once someone has learned to cast properly you generally find no matter what style they choose to use they can do it well . Just because tournament lads can cast a long way doesnt mean they have to , horses for courses mate if the fish are close, cast close ,but if they are at 150+ yds put your bait there (IF you can ).
Most of the lads I cast with are totally at home on everything from rock marks to clean beaches they just change their style and gear to suit . If you can only cast one way then your at a disadvantage straight away .
