It's completely different mate.
Some use similar styles with a shortened drop and less rotation. It's more to do with safety and ease of the cast.
You want to be in the water rather than blowing up reels with mis-timed casts.
Footing, sloping beach, space, conditions, bait size etc...are all factors that determine the technique of the cast. Some excel (bait casters) and can cast anywhere, similar distances to that on the field. Others (most) struggle and can't get anywhere near the same distance.
As for not making a differece...you don't know unless you can. Personally, it can be more of a hindrence in the summer up the coast and at night.
