Just thought I would put a little report on to try and cheers people up a bit. It's not all about catching big cod but downgrading your gear this time of year to have some fun. Spent 3 hours there and got 3 rockling, 2 coalies, a flatty and a codling. Codling just undersize and one of the coalies was sized. The rest were just smallish but had great fun on the flatty rod. Suppose it depends what you see as fun though as although I love to catch my cod I enjoy catching small stuff just as much if using the right equipment. There was 2 other guys on there that both blanked though. Suppose knowing your mark or fishing for what's there is the key sometimes

spot on mate.

i love the summer months, fishing all night getting lots of small stuff, and first light macky.all on light gear great sport.

Well done mate, plenty sport come the next few months like ya say just down grade. :)

Hi mog, was down the "bottom of your garden" on monday and saw and stood upon rocks that i hadnt even seen before, didnt catch owt and lost loads of gear but learnt more for next year!

Was good fun, just need to change your train of thought from big fish to nice sport.

Was it cod rock you fished from Jamie? Just right of the gun pit or was it the white steels (light coloured rocks before you hit the kelpy ones just before the mudhole? Not been much coming from anywhere round there lately mate (apart from in the nets where I heard 80lb of cod was caught from one a week or so ago!!!!)

cod rock area mate, codonly was on the boiler skeer and he was standing on the boiler, you could walk across from boiler skeer to the cod rock easily and i was a good 20-30 yards further owt! Nee fish though...

Yep true.
What got me and kept me into fishing was a perch so many years ago from Newsham Pond.
Never forget the kick on the rod i felt, tiny fish but the gear let me feel it.
Thats what fishing is about ain't it?
