Have you tried the F-fly, it’s one of the most effective dries I’ve tried? Just lash a dense clump of CDC facing along the shank of a size18 hook then trim to shape; no need for a body.

Your files are excellent mate , if this weather doesn't sort itself out soon I might be back chucking fluff as well, another good dry fly is the sedgehog, tie it on a size ten with lots of white deer hair, it casts like a dream and you can see it a mile away , so can the rainbows by the way they take them
