christening the new gear

hi all, I'm relatively new to fishing, been boat fishing a couple of times in my youth, enjoyed it ,but didn't take it any further, so about 6 month ago wor kid (rotten bottom on here)asked if i wanted to go fishing with him and my nephew kyle, just in the Tyne down by spillers, and i loved it :-),i was using his spare gear so decided to get my own started off with a Jarvis walker rod and fixed reel combo, then got myself a okuma fixed spool and a Ron Thompson zenzorflex 12ft rod , finding it hard to reel in any weight really on the fixed spool , we decided we had to move on to a multiplier , so we had a trip a week or so ago to ID Fishing Tackle where we both got a sonik sks 13ft rod and a greys mag seven reel.So yesterday we headed to shields pier to have a go with them.We got to pier for about 8am ish, fished just before the 44 mark , wor kid had a nightmare day , scraped his new rod off the pier wall because he never flicked the switch back on the reel lol , lost 6 sets of gear , 2 canny birds nests and caught nowt (oh and a leaky flask lol )but he lives to fight another sesh , i on the other hand had a canny day , no nests only lost 2 sets and caught 7 fish (flounder,5 whiting and a coalie),loved me new rod,but to be honest i wouldn't know a good one from a bad one lol,im still cautious of the multi like,we both are but we'll get there im sure :eek:

It gets even more addictive mind you ;) well done on the catch :D the sonik sks is quite a good rod, I like most started with a fixed spool but soon got a multi, first one being the penn 525 and loved it so got another in the form of a daiwa 7ht also and recently bought the greys g-mag 7 simply because of the price of it, never tried it as of yet but looks well worth the £50 I paid brand new, I'm sure within a few weeks you will get used to the multi and wont look back

i spoke to wayne on the phone he sounded gutted about his rod lol...and welcome to the forum fella!...nice session now to find a roof rack so i can join you! :D

re-rod scrape

re-rod scrape

try some "T" cut colour coded car polish worked wonders when my rod got scraped along the rocks, just keep plenty water on cloth when rubbing.
