whats the crack with the carp fishing stu
what do you need /bait wise/set up/rod/traces/liecence/?????
with it being on our doorstep i may have a go at it
as falcone says set up is not an arm and a leg
you need around 6to 10 lb main line , some lighter hook length line (about 75% of main line )
some hooks you will think are a joke (barbless ), i use down to 18's and you need a magnifying glass just to put a maggy on them , 1 oz leads are more than enough
i use a swim feeder a lot so this goes on the main line instead of a lead free running by a swivel and use a bead to protect the knot to a swivel ,
baits i use are maggys ( putting them in your mouth first is not compulsory now LOL ) sweet corn , dendrabena (sp?) worms , lob worms (ones from the garden) , spam or bread free floating
in a swim feeder i use a ground up mix of dry dog food , chicken feed and some molasses , i by in 25 kg bags from english's through at east rainton and it costs me £16 (including one gall of molasses ) for a years ground bait
first time i tried this mix at strawberry field was a summers eve 3 years ago and i had 57 carp in 3 hours , it can be very intense fishing and be prepared to play the fish as a 0.5 lb carp will pull you round a pool for a good while , theres nothing in the sea like them till you get mullet fishing
one enjoyable way to fish is with a small elasticated pole in the margin (first couple of feet from the bank ), mine cost me £10 done from a whip and i have had 7.5 lb carp on it , you just keep the pole at an angle to the fish and let it fight the elastic
a day licence is needed and i think its about £4 and must be carried when fishing as the men from defra come round odd times to check them
oh and when you cast first time dont worry with sea anglers EVERY ONE casts right over to the other side and misses the water first time

so no off the ground or pendulum casts needed just a light lob or swing out
