Coarse Fishing anyone?

With the end of the winter sea fishing season and the arrival of summer, rather than spend my time on the piers getting badgered for spinners etc from the young'ins, i was how many on here do coarse fishing.

I'll be dusting off my freshwater gear tmorrow and will most likely get myself out. Iknow the Fly lads have just had a meetup and there are regular shore comp meetups etc, if anyone is interested in maybe having a bit of a coarse meetup, maybe even have a fun comp at a venue......

Just another attempt for people to get to know each other....

me and the wife both course fish and fly when we can ( both moldy old cripples :D )

her biggest moan (apart from things to do with me ) is that sea fish dont fight , she would rather have a 0.5 lb carp than a 5.0 lb cod for that reason and for once size does not matter , really , as they all go back when they can :)

Sharpley Course Fishing

Sharpley Course Fishing

Hello.

There is a small lake next to the paint-balling at sharpley in seaham. It is known as the strawberry field and is stuffed with fish. Carp ranging from newly spawned, up to about 15lb or so.

There are plenty other silver fish to keep you amused when the carp aren't playing. It is only a small lake but in the summer when it warms up a bit, fishing sport can be superb. Just turn up on the bank and start fishing. One of the regular bailifs will be round throughout the day to collect your money. It costs £5 all day. All the bailifs are friendly and will give lots of advice if needed!

Hope this helps.

yes i know that lake i fished it all last season, im not really looking for advice , just maybe a few new people to fish with...as im a bit of a loner....hehe thanks anyway for taking the time to post something.

shhhhhhhhhhuuuushhhhhhhh

we dont tell people about the strawberry field :o

its a private club now just you me and the wife can fish it , well till you went an told them all :D

whats the crack with the carp fishing stu
what do you need /bait wise/set up/rod/traces/liecence/?????
with it being on our doorstep i may have a go at it

tbh gary there is nothing to it,catching is a lot more frequent than the sea fishing, and the setup can be very cheap, for my match fishing i use a ron thompson zensorflex quiver tip rod and a little diawa reel, the setup costs less than 30 quid.

failing that ive got around 4 carp rods and 3 match rods all with reels, so you would be welcome to use some of my gear to see if you like it.

as falcone says set up is not an arm and a leg

you need around 6to 10 lb main line , some lighter hook length line (about 75% of main line )

some hooks you will think are a joke (barbless ), i use down to 18's and you need a magnifying glass just to put a maggy on them , 1 oz leads are more than enough
i use a swim feeder a lot so this goes on the main line instead of a lead free running by a swivel and use a bead to protect the knot to a swivel ,
baits i use are maggys ( putting them in your mouth first is not compulsory now LOL ) sweet corn , dendrabena (sp?) worms , lob worms (ones from the garden) , spam or bread free floating

in a swim feeder i use a ground up mix of dry dog food , chicken feed and some molasses , i by in 25 kg bags from english's through at east rainton and it costs me £16 (including one gall of molasses ) for a years ground bait

first time i tried this mix at strawberry field was a summers eve 3 years ago and i had 57 carp in 3 hours , it can be very intense fishing and be prepared to play the fish as a 0.5 lb carp will pull you round a pool for a good while , theres nothing in the sea like them till you get mullet fishing

one enjoyable way to fish is with a small elasticated pole in the margin (first couple of feet from the bank ), mine cost me £10 done from a whip and i have had 7.5 lb carp on it , you just keep the pole at an angle to the fish and let it fight the elastic

a day licence is needed and i think its about £4 and must be carried when fishing as the men from defra come round odd times to check them

oh and when you cast first time dont worry with sea anglers EVERY ONE casts right over to the other side and misses the water first time :D so no off the ground or pendulum casts needed just a light lob or swing out

hehe ye spot on mate, when im at the strawberry lake i generally fish close to the over hanging tree ,like u say small carp can give you quite a batlle on the light tackle and you have to be quick to strike otherwise ye rod nearly gets pulled, or they get them selves well and truely wedged in the tree or reeds....

Very fun fishing, in much kinder conditions thatn the winter cod bashing..

sounds fun mate ill take you up on the loan of tackle and see if i like it first when you fancy having a go ?
baz we could have a meet up all 3 of us
