coastguard chases 2 off roker pier

what a bunch of bloomig idiots. ye always get a bunch of pleb ends so call anglers spoiling it for others..be it denying access fishing where its restricted .taking undersized fish ....bunch of idiots

danny boy, I'm not sure that something that happened yesterday should go in the "All our Yesterdays" section lol. I'm sure Jim'll shift it soon.

I saw a couple of lights on there last week. At this rate the council will be in no rush at all to get it fixed as they know it's us who are losing out the most!!

while i was fishing on the old north pier at roker yesterday morning i could not believe my eyes when i saw two fishermen climbing over the gates on roker pier in the day light hours.

These fishermen were later chased off the pier by the coastguard, i do not mind people climbing over the gates at night when it is dark but in broad daylight, the council will now be aware that it is possible to climb over the gates and it would not surprise me if extra railing were put on the gates.

PEOPLE LIKE THIS SPOIL IT FOR EVERYBODY ELSE

Danny

whats the difference between night and day danny, the pier is closed for a reson, ie it's highly dangerous, we don't.t want another death of a sea angler on this forum.

i have seen the damage on roker pier and if you keep to the left hand side you are ok, there are large holes in the concrete half way along and loads of the foot railing are missing, people who go on in daylight hours can be seen by everyone, the main reason why it is closed is the foot railing, which is the lowest part of the railing. Before roker pier was closed the concrete which is missing was taped off so you had to walk round it.

i understand what you are saying, but with modern headlamps it doest make any difference between night and day anymore, [and we all have them]for me dangerous fishing is foolish fishing ,it's simply not worth a fish, believe me I've been in situations when i was crapping myself; never again life 's to short as it is.

Sorry if it offends anyone but I stand with Matchman on this subject I`m not out to cause offense or pointing the finger at anyone but closed means closed on this mark as well as other known marks, if forums are seen to be openly condoning night time activity that may be illegal such as climbing around barriers or trespassing on other marks not just this one, regardless of the personal beliefs of each member to condone such actions on a public viewed forum would be a bad move me thinks.

Not to mention that quite a few of Northumbria / Durham police force's anglers frequent this forum....

Wonder what their thoughts are if they were called to remove anglers climbing onto Roker pier...???
why dont ya just pick up the phone 999 ya might aswell ya letting them know whats going on and shields pier is the same when its closed and folk still climb round and continue to fish regardless

Got to agree with Lorry & Matchman on this. Closed means Closed, wether it be day or night. We have few places to fish from as it is and with MCZ's on the way we will have a few less, so lets not give the authorities any excuses to take away another good angling venue. If a place is closed for a reason " KEEP OUT "

hang on a minute...I was giving my views on this thread...I didn't actually START it...

I understand what you mean on this matter but my argument on this is when the sea is flat i think it should be open, the damage is the same now as it was was before christmas when it was open.the damaged concrete was taped off when it was open.

roker pier is a very good pier and i have fished it for 30 year i know when not to go on, i know sone fishermen take risks but i do not!

thanks for your concerns on this matter.

we are taking risks everytime we fish no matter where and how long we have been fishing, most of us are adult enough to access the situation and make the right choice. sometimes we don't.....thats life. you could kill yourself in an inch of water or 30 feet of water we all take a risk everyday from getting out of bed until i go back again.

the fishing daylight hours and nightime hours when a pier is closed to the public is neither here or there, like has been said, closed to the public means closed to the public.

...as an after thought...if someone actually got injured or worse - washed off Roker pier when it was actually closed to the public...who would be liable? Compensation? - I think not.
Insurance payout? - doubt it.

It's closed for a reason...why spoil it for all the other anglers who use Roker pier...when it's actually open??

Good point matchman.

There will always be anglers who fish Roker when the pier is shut, myself not included, have been tempted though, but the fact that anglers are now going on there and quite happily posting reports about the fish that have been caught on there is quite simply wrong, incidently we have some very big tides coming up combined with big seas, which is going to cause some horrendous conditions. Many of the angler who have been fishing on there i imagine are experienced but the fact that fish have been reported will encourage not so experienced anglers to take the risk and that will be when the next accident in the North east happens,God forbid.

we have all along our coast from north to south a multitude of piers most of them in a state of total disrepair, why, the victorians built the breakwaters and piers for protection and our enjoyment and did a bloody good job of it ,not only for anglers but for everyone, so why have the councils let them go to rack and ruin, if they where buildings of such proportions as our piers in the town or country side they would be grade two listed building, but i think the councils would rather spend our money on parking meter maids, outreach bollocks coordinators and so forth ,forgetting that these piers are a little part of north east coast history.
