Cod north of the Tyne

Just been fishing off Blyth beach so far this winter, but would like to try a few more rock marks. Somewhere like King Edwards bay, Cullercoats, Whitley Beach or Seaton Sluice, but not to sure where is best to start for a novice. Also what sort of tide and conditions I should be looking for. Appreciate that its ain't an exact science, but would be grateful for any pointers.

there is some excellent marks around hartley but like most places on the northeast coast has to be fished at low water, the ground is rough so rotten bottoms is needed, fish the skeer to the left hand side of the big steps, you wont be able to get cut off here as the tide forces you back.
can be fished here in most conditions as the offshore skeers breaks up most of the sea.
some cracking fish to be had from here , rough ground baits will catch fish
( crab+mussel)
some might regard the hartley area as no good for a novice as tackle losses can be heavy, which tends to put the new angler off.
will let a few more add to this post and see what they have to say on the best marks for a novice.

As Pete says most of the shots are low water rock marks. I would suggest you try the pipe at Whitley bay to get a taster. Pick a bigish tide during daylight to get a feel for the place. I wouldn't fish the end on your own, stick to the bay, you don't need a big cast and a fast retrieve reduces snags. Park at the tennis courts on the sea front and walk down to the lower prom and down the (slippery!)steps onto the rocks & out to the pipe (the pipe is covered in concrete by the way & makes for an easy access). Fish two hours down & one up. Don't fish it in big seas & keep an eye out behind you as when it floods it comes around the back.

pete, john - thanks for your input. I think I'll be popping down low water for a recce before I take the rod. I've gt 2 weeks holiday over christmas - I have a feeling it will be put t good use.

As to tackle, I have a Greys Orion which although a beach rod, others have mentioned that it can handle a bit of the rough stuff. For reels, I have a SLOSH30 loaded with 30lb line and just picked up a Penn 535 GS off a forum member loaded with Yozuri 38lb line.

Thanks Stores, the main areas that intrigue me are the rock marks to the north of tynemouth beach and up to Cullercoats harbour and the marks to the north of Cullercoats harbour to Whitley Bay pipe. No idea about access, tides, times or the actual marks themselves.

Any info provided would be most greatfully recieved.

Thanks also to the people that have PM'd me and offered to show me some marks, most appreciated.
