"Continental style" rods

Alright lads

I am thinking of buying one of these longer style rods such as a BB, greys triplex, or one of the many offerings from companies such as Alcedo, Yuki etc. 15 - 16 ft for use with fixed spool and braid. Just for use off the beach in clean/mixed conditions

My question is has anyone got experience of putting a lead out and fishing with one of these type rods on a winters night in the a big North sea and quite simply are they up to the task? Obviously there will be pros and cons but after some opinions

I don't think they are designed to fish in rough north seas mate in the middle of winter... Summer fishing however they might be well worth a shot.
 
I had a feeling they might not be up to the task in winter but thought I would seek opinion as some are rated to quite heavy weights.

Chukka - I use braid for quite a bit of my fishing. I have it on both my spinning reels, and my Ultegra. I still use mono for heavy rock marks but for the set up in question I was planning to treat myself to a new Surf Blaster as have heard good things

Yeah the yuki rods have high casting ratings but that is for a light overhead cast only. If you need a heavier weight etc is stick to a more normal beach rod. Not really got much experience first hand though. Only really saw the yuki rods being reviewed on here...
 
If you want to fish with braid and a fixie, you could try and get a 14' six and bait. I had one with a Surfblaster and it worked really well, and the rod is strong enough for our coast.

got the xxx aswell surfblaster 8000 x2 also.know were coming from.casts along way in right hands {not mine}haha.CRAP in any winds,but would be ideal for you fishing spittal beach,coldingham beach,ie.i also use my 8000 around rock edges with the braid on,so really reel wise youll be on a winner imo.rod wise do same as me,just use when its suitable.my 2p worth,hope it helps your choice.:)
 
Cheers Reg. Think it was mostly you I have heard good things about the Penn from, that and the amount of lads on here who seem to have one!

Just been looking about for rods - there is a lad on ebay selling a 20 foot beachcaster :o No thoughts of buying it more WTF
 
nunthorpe do you do your winter fishing with them? I can see the extra length being beneficial for keeping the line high but how do you get on?

Being an old gadgie I found the extra length gave me better distance.... fished with one all last winter liked it so I have just bought another one........£20 cheaper now :mad:
