I really should,nt but i fancy a 16ft beachaster and Penn Surfblaster fixed spool outfit with braid.

Looking at Penn Rampage 15ft 9 inch rod at 99 quid and a 7000 Penn reel 70 quid.

But i keep thinking i have my TT Match and 525 Supermag so why spend more money.........................(plus my Abu Suveron and 6500).

Some guys i spoke to recently are 100 per cent converts using the 16 ft beachcasters and fixed spools.

I've got a surfblaster 8000 and find I cast further than with any other reel and fast retrieve haven't used the braid on it yet

there is a few lads going that way its easy distance and some sport but only clean ground the europeans dont fish big seas with weed they fish crystal clear calm waters

Not be long everyone will be using them! But do you have to use a coffee grinder with them? Or can you use a multi?

been using set up last 4years ideal of bays and beaches,even use mine up beadnell areas,i use xxx 8000&850 penns with braid on,slices through kelp.mind you i also use couple of stiff rods abu reels aswell as the new akios reel as its l/h,loads of anglers down whitby area have been using this set up for years even for rock edges.tight lines

you want to see what the South Africans use, very long rod one piece rods and fixed spools and they catch shark off the beaches and rock ends, and can cast a big bait for a long way.

Switched in the summer after talking to the Whitby lads, makes casting effortless and no worries about overruns. I use a 15' rod and 8000 Penn with braid. The Whitby and Scarborough lads use the same set up for rough ground and Cliff fishing mind.

I've been thinking about this for a while now.
What rods do people recommend ?

Been using a 15ft six and bait and a Penn Affinity a few times lately with 20lb braid and 80lb braid shocker on the beach,bite detection is fantastic,even the bleeding rocklings give a good rattle .Only had three short sessions and small fish but no problems.Still prefer my multis and stiffer rods but its summat else to try .Will use the setup more in the summer I think.

I've just started using a Penn affinity reel with 15 pound line and 60 shockleader and can cast it further than my multiplier, highly recomend this reel for your set up as it's an absolute beast!!

I'm struggling with the multiplyer a bit do u think these penn fixed spools will be any good over rocks or is ther a better fixed spool for rocks

Get in touch with Bob Collins (arc) and sort yourself out with a casting lesson Mick. The gear you have is well balanced and very capable and an hour with Bob will have you casting a good 150 yards and more to come with a bit of practice.

You've got plenty of time on your hands now you're an ex-woodentop; invest the time and save your pension for Norway

I have a 16ft 6 surf caster. Bought it when we got back from Ireland a couple of years ago. Lunny was using the very same rod today. Next time we're out I'll let you use it before you buy one. I find it a bit soft and is terrible in rough water or high winds as it quivers on the end never
