hi all was at my local tackle shop today getting some bait when i overheard two
blokes muttering behind the counter stuff like ''never been this bad'' and ''crab situation is desperate''
so me being me said ''so asking for crab is out of the question:D:D''
that didnt go down well:) i knew nowt about this but theres a national shortage of peeler due to all the fresh water in the rivers and spring not happeining apparently:confused::confused:
they said fresh crab is changing hands at £1 each:eek:
is all this true or just demand outwaying deliveries:confused:

no, have heard it from many people that there is a shortage of crab, lads doing their shelters are only getting 10-20 carb when they normally get 50 or more. Crabs certainly don't like fresh water.

its been like that everytime i go to the tackle shop:( certainley a bad year indeed then!! crab is a dirty word at the moment methinks!!
and at a pound a crab!! they can keep them!!:D:D

It's been dire so far this year, I gather all my own and it's been very hard work - shops have been struggling to get a fraction of their orders and consequently lads are often having to settle for a fraction of what they've ordered. So far I've only got about half what I'd normally have frozen down by now, so I'm certainly concerned about my winter stock - expect crab prices to go silly come the winter!

The thing with crab, if it's a good size, is that you'll often get two baits out of one crab. If it's a pound a pop, that could be 5 baits for £2.50. Quite often if you buy blow lug at around the same price for 10, you'll need to load on three, four or five (sometimes more!) to make up a good bait. That actually makes crab pretty good value for money compared to the humble lugworm.
