hoping someone can help , i was thinking of putting a few traps down (guttering) do you put the guttering in vertically or do you lay it flat half or fully under the mud and what are the un written rules on were you can place them ie do they have to be a certain distance from others traps , ill be placing them at blyth river and dont want to step on others toes so to speak , maybe a dozen traps or so , any advice gratefully received , thanks.

i have all my traps in blyth m8 & yes do watch where u put them as if they r close 2 some1's traps they will just lift them. we all know each other down there so where abouts r u thinking on putting these gutters m8 & i can tell u if ur gutters will b safe.
set them at a 45 degree angle & best ive found with guttering is 2 set them facing up river as the tide runs faster on the flood & can rip the gutters out. any info just send me a p.m m8 & i'll help u where i can.

im just mulling the idea over at the moment
i was thinking somewhere around the pipe area where i dig for rag ive only seen one set of tyres down there , i thought a few along the edge as i only want to collect a few and probably not every day , just when i go fishing once or twice a week just want enough for a few hours fishing , dont know if its worth it really could probably get enough under the rocks lol , but thanks for the info :)

sets of traps both sides of the pipe m8 they belong to 2 brothers but they dont go rite up2 the pipe so nothing wrong in putting gutters along the stretch of the pipe m8, u will need alot more than half a dozen lenghths thou m8, u dont get a crab in every trap so u need 2 put out as many as u can 2 better your chances.
good luck m8

cheers m8 , ill prolly go down there and have a good look around before i decide but its a big river so im sure i could find some empty ground , do you think a bit farther up river would be any good say before and around the blue bridge ?? not to sure if the crabs get up that far though but ive seen small flattys up as far as the old stone bridge at the hairpin so maybe , but like i said ill have a reccy first , cheers

Fly tipping

Fly tipping

Anyone placing ,gutters, tyres and the like in the estuary ,is effectively ,fly tipping.I have collected crabs from any trap that i have come across from the Blyth to the tee`s .Never had any bother from anyone that has questioned me about who`s trap it is.

You're obviously looking for an argument me thinks!

NO not at all:confused:Once things are ,effectively, dumped on the estuary, they do not belong to anyone.God knows how many people have removedthings from my traps (that i have illegally placed) and if i`m not there to remove the spoils:eek:then so be it.

weres the traps you set that are no longer yours? they dont belong to you so i might take them.

i live 2 minutes away from the river (cowpen) and im down there through out the year walking the dog or taking my son for walks up to bedlington woods and was there a few days ago and to be honest i saw loads of ground without traps/tyres , yes there was a few tyres behind the factory's on Cowley road but not that many , meh you can keep it lads , ill collect under rocks around the coast like i did last year or buy them (from a shop) but it seems a bit like having your cake and eating it though , you dont like it when your traps are raided/pulled but your not prepared to give a little when someone wants to go about it the right way , sort of reminds me of the seagulls in the film finding nemo mine mine mine whats next writing names on rocks with marker pens pfft .

@charlie10910 your first mistake was asking ;) seems to me some people think they own the river

its not that they own the river, its that other people try to collect the rewards of your efforts of putting traps/tyres/pipe down to collect crab. i had that problem last year and a was not a happy chap. never mind though, never had the problem again this year.... yet!:D

effort? to throw old tires in a river? make some sence seems to me some people have had it all there own way for to long.

looking on other sites also alot of thinly covered threat`s aimed to people if they took out of "there" traps.

also taking hard crabs and then using tanks seems greedy to me and then selling them to tackle shops(yes alot do).

yes, but if you laid those traps, u feel as if though all youre hard work is for nothin, alot of traps take time to work and u dont want people stealing the rewards of your efforts:(

Love it when people are clueless. :o

aye m8 i know  mental isnt it ;) , i would also like so say i have not ever raided a trap and have no intention of ever starting to i started this topic for advice on where to put some of my own traps but it seems the river is taken ALL OFF IT even though my own eyes see that theres plenty of ground but also being told that any traps i lay could be pulled out of spite or that people wont be happy if my traps are to close to others is just plain wrong .
