Ive just finished reading a book called "As far as my feet will carry me"
Absolutely astonishing. The true story of a German soldier captured at the end of WW2", His 25 year sentence and subsequent escape from a lead mine in Siberia, and his three year 8000 mile walk to freedom. Who he meets, how he survives, and drags his battered emaciated body all that way because of his sheer determination to return to his wife and his home land. a fantastic read.
Id reccommend it to anyone. Had the hairs on my neck standing up.

try "the long walk" by Slavomir Rawicz

very true story, escaped from siberia in the middle of winter and walked to india, took a couple of years to get there, a superb book

lol....after reading ells post, I looked all over the net to try and find anything regarding this book being dismissed as a hoax....no wonder I couldnt find owt..lol..(will read it now..knowing that it's all true...) unless of course....

I've read some stuff on the net claiming the long walk to be made up, but there's more than enough that claims it to be accurate as well

best bet, read it and see what you think. Promise you its an unputdownable one though

Gonna give it a go...... just sorted it on ebay. I'm always on the lookout for a good read, and based upon paul's and your recomendation..I'm looking forward to it..
