Hi lads are crimp pliers a must or do normal pliers work. Also how tight do you do the crimes as I have read they should be able to slide?

i just use normal ones i just give it one at top and one at bottom just judge how hard you crimpit, to hard and you cut into line and to soft it slides up and down what i think will fray your line anyway so just a nice gentle crimp to hold it in place should work.
trial and error i say, everyone has there own way thats mine.:)

Cheers Mick. Do you use srt springs for breakaway rigs ? I use a Gemini normally but going to learn to cast otg soon and can't see how the hook would stay clipped up ?

normally just use pulley rigs using breakaway imps/ have a few with springs.
just made 4 up and over rigs for tomorrow.

I don't have a clue with sea rigs as it's come a long way since I used to go. I have been using pulley rigs but have been looking at rigs with more hooks ie flapper etc.
What's an up and over rig mate ?

I use a set of 'Fox' crimp pliers, which I have found very good.
They seam the centre of the crimp with a series of indents.
You should only apply enough pressure to stop the crimp from sliding, but not so much that you thin the diameter dramatically....it's hard to describe as it is feel...and practise ?
I haven't had any fail as yet....touch wood....
They were around £13 quid...and have paid for themselves...IMHO!
Green Handles, with lanyard....will look on fleaB...see if I can spot them ?

Mel....

Mine are 'Fox Predator', which seem to have been superseded by the 'Fox Rage'...Look the same but some of the piccies on FleaB seem to show some pliers with only 1 pair of anvils? It is the type with 2 sets you want, as the smaller size is perfect for 0.8mm crimps which is the size I use on all my rigs.
http://www.procastangling.co.uk/crimping-pliers-1312-p.asp#......Predator @ £9.99p...1 pair left !!!.... I was robbed ?

Try the breakaway adjustable crimps. You can apply them with normal pliers if your careful due to the rubber inserts inside of the crimp. Just consider though that adding crimps will weaken the line to an extent so apply them carefully so you don't end up with crack offs etc

The round nose do the job perfect and dont crack the crimp
like pliers do see the other post (Fao dazzz) they are only 99p now
I bend surgical stainless steel to make rotters they are a good bit of kit.

Don't use any of the crimp tools for electrical crimps as they will damage your line, they are set up to crimp to wire which is obviously more hard wearing than nylon.

One nip in the middle of the crimp with a pair of long or round nose pliers is sufficient for nylon, don't try this on electrical connections though lol.

Fishing mark I have first hand knowledge of a fisherman who uses this method to crimp leads and swivels for pulley rigs with no problems and he cast's a good distance. .....he will be using them at the moment in Norway ;););)

Crimps on a pulley rig ????

I shouldn't have said "don't" use the electrical crimp pliers on nylon, I should have said from my experience "I wouldn't". If you want to use them go for it.
