Misses needed the car and but fancied a session, so stayed local and fished the harbour (south pier) over high, up and back down.
First cast at 9 as the jet skiers and wall jumpers had just moved off. Rod starts nodding away, codling 37 cm, just sized but put back to grow bigger. Just as it was getting dark, few sand eels started jumping. Has a spinning rod with me, quickly whacked on a reel and some daylights and a spinner. By now the water all around was boiling with sandeels jumping all around me, the whole bay right up to the sand. 2nd cast, coaly. 3rd cast almost a full house of coalies (4 of 5 hooks!!! Great sport on small rod and small fixed spool reel!!). Carried on, billet here and there every other cast, then a mackerel. Then they disappeared as quickly as they arrived.
Back to 2 big rods, had 2 more small codling, just under size, 2 coalies and around 6 or 7 rockling. Fresh mussel and peeler doing the damage.
Really enjoyable evening, plus the rain kept away.
