Friday evening decided to have a daft sesh for plaice/flounders/billet at cullercoats. Just moved here, never fished it before. Did a reece of crawleys/north crab hill the tide before for a few weeks time. Started a hour and a half before high tide on the north pier. A scratching rod an a spinning rod both with 2 hook flappers and small hooks. Totally flat seas, first few hours casting between the piers resulting in 3 flounders. As the tide started dropping, cast out a bit further, resulting in a small codling. Once i had that moved up to 1/0 hooks and bigger rag/lug/mussel baits. Was trying out one of the swim feeder leads from veals (using spent baits that the crabs aint had) and did it work. As soon as it got dusk, was a tommy a cast. Must have had nearly 30 little codling (all less than a pound) casting short of the boats. 20 ish to the swim feeder rod, and about 3 or 4 to the other. Not had tommys like that a cast for years. Was great fun, last 4 casts as it got dark, 4 codling to the same bait as I had ran out of bait. 4 were red ones over tge session. Living less than 300m from the sea is unreal. Originally from Middlesbrough, but 6 miles from the sea but being in the army 14 years, living inland and being living in the midlands for 2 years to this is a dream. Walked from the house with me gear and back within 5 mins. Looking forward to the summer and especially the winter.
