Dangers of the dark

On Tuesday after a 5 hour session at camels island at Marsden me and wor lad packed up and started to trek back over the leas, when we got to a point where we split up we noticed someone standing still about 100 yards away in the pitch dark and freezing cold, thinking it odd we left each other saying we would keep an eye on him as we headed for our cars, he never moved, anyway we had said we would meet again the next day for another session and park together. We met up on Wed and headed back to the same place only to see him standing there again, so i said i've got to find out what he's doing, so we walked nearer, when we got about 50 yards away (heart beating fast now) you guessed it, it was a bloody 6 foot snowman.

Classico :D

There's a comedy character I believe - Harry Enfield might have done it - who is scared of everything. That's me in the dicky dark on a beach. Please do not walk up to me in your rubber soled shoes in damp sand and think I know you're coming. I may have twizzled round a couple of times to bait up from the tackle box and you may have seen a glimmer from my headlamp. That doesn't mean I've seen you, my headlamp is rubbish, I can't even see my bait!

If you wish to come alongside and share the craic then please use an air horn from 400 yards out.

Please don't sneak up on me as it makes me CACK MESELL :red:

I have done that to a few people Ian, now I start whistling and switch my headlight on and off a couple of times before I get there.

There used to be an oldish guy on Blyth beach that used to appear from nowhere. A few times I just turned to the side and there he was just a couple of feet away    he relaxed my bowels a few times :D :D :D Just a bit on the lonely side, lived by himself and used to come along the beach to talk to the fishermen, I just wish he would have whistled a few times lol.

can you let me have your full names, will make a nice little tale for the Sunday Sun, or is anybody going to send the info incase the brothers don't

:o :o :o :D :D :D It wasn't just me that saw him either mind Alan, there was quite a few of the regular lads on the beach mentioned him, usually after I walked up without them seeing me lol.

When i first started reading the opening post i thought you were going to say you had met up with the ghost of the lea's an old smuggler who roames between camels and the fourth bay.

Come across him a few times Terry. I always know when it's him, because there is never any wind blowing, yet you can hear a tin can being kicked along the beach, so i only fish those beaches on the windy nights..
The best one was on the end of s/s pier about 30 yrs ago. Me and a mate were the only ones on the end on the short wall, when an old man came along and rested his pushbike against the rails about 30 ft away, and using a handline just by the steps, he pulled three fish in over the rail in only a couple of minutes, ( they were all about 6/7 lbs ) put them in the panniers on his bike and moved away back down the pier. Me and Brian just looked at each other in disbelief, carried on fishing , and never spoke about it again. what i remember was, there was no moon and it was really dark but you could still make him out,and he made no noise at all. I dont believe in ghosties but. :)

Jim, when the old man left i bet you didnt see him leave and also you would not have seen him riding his bike down the pier, he would have been there one minute and gone the next without a trace.
He's been seen by many over the years, some say it was one of the old time lighthouse keepers.

I wasn't there this night but was told by T.C. and Ian that they were fishing Shields pier and someone walked past them towards the end and he had no shoes on. As the night passed and more people left Tony asked how many were left on the end and a couple of lads said that there was no one left as they had been the last. Tony and Ian made their way to the end to continue their fishing and sure enough there was no one else there and they are both sure he didn't come back past them. I think they were fishing at the rail end.

Come across this one before when fishing the 44. Seen the guy (or whatever it was) but never seen him leave, just seemed to disappear. Proper freaked me out at the time.

Also had an 'experience' on Marsden beach by the rock, three of us there. Other two left, about 5mins later heard footsteps crunching the shingle but no one there, other two were half way up the steps at the time. I'd caught them up by the time they'd reached the top.
