Northern Ireland Fishing

Neither of them or any good really - if you wanted to fish any part of the Northern Ireland coastline (which is part of the UK) you will be hard pushed to get ANY tips ,never mind any local info - i am transfering my subscribtion back to salmon and trout - and reading the above in supermarkets like like Al said earlier

What part of N.I do you fish most. I live near Ardglass so do quite a bit around the rock marks there. I've always searched forlornly amongst tsf sea angler for anything on Northern Ireland marks, but apart from a tiny, repetitive and virtually useless section at the end of sea angler there never was anything(and I think even that's now dissappeared). On a brighter note, have you suscribed to the Irish Angler, the relatively new magazine from TSF's parent company? It seems to have quite a lot of sea fishing articles in it, some even covering marks in Northern Ireland.

Wrassetler - thanks for your post ,i live on the North East Coast England - my missus is from Belfast ,but we go over to Bushmills in the summer to use her mothers holiday house , i generally take a good spinning rod over and plonk myself on a cliff outcrop - ballycastle/white rocks/ballintoy harbour/dunsevric/port ballintrae etc - never really had anything to right home about ,apart from a turbot on a spinner (Sless was with me and witnessed it ) but would like to know more about the winter fishing so i can get a cheap deal on the ferry load the car up ,and have a chill out fishing ,then a gallon of Strongbow in the Scotch House at Bushmills

I just think of it as a charitable donation, in the hope that some anglers get that vital bit of information they need to keep them interested in our sport. if all the top class anglers, and the people who profess to know everything about our sport, did not buy the mags, that leaves the no hopers.sorry if that sounds patronising, but at the moment our sport needs as much publicity/finance and kept in the public eye.if the mags are not the way you like them, tell them. dont come on here to raise a ground swell.

Just a thought (for those magazine bods looking in).........

Is there not room in the market for a more "specialist" sea angling magazine?

One that caters more for the experienced angler than the novice and which could also include articles / features on the wider aspects of angling - things such as marine conservation, more in depth stuff regarding Govt legislation, and the work of the NFSA, etc. ????

That's a fair point Tony ,although it can't be easy to cater for the wide spectrum of abilities out there with only the resources available to a couple of mags.

Hi BriH, the only winter fishing I've done around Bushmills has been for bass, so far I've only caught flounders though. The rock fishing, which is what I do moast, is generally best in the summer, but I am planning to give winter codding a real try this winter around my local patch of Co. Down. Should be interesting as I've never heard much about this type of fishing in N.I, although again I'm not expecting much.

Welcome to NESA Wrassetler, keep in touch with NESA and tell us how you get on,nice to hear from people in other area's.

Steve - TC I think if there was a market for another Mag then we would probably have one, like the lads have said they seem to repeat there seasonal articles every year,I agree with what you say though Tony it would be nice to see some more in depth articles, maybe if one of them brought a half yearly or quarterly supplement Mag out to enlighten us about more in depth issues.

So at what point do you cease to be a novice angler?
First fish,one year,first fish over 3 pounds.
When???????

I think it is more of a choice of reading Paul, at the moment there really isn't one. If there was you could pick which ever one appealed to you the most, which would then answer your question.

Having fished for about thirty years I certainly wouldn't class myself as a novice but there was a time when I thought I new a bit more than I did. I think that was when I stopped being a novice because I started to learn more.

Jim.

Cheers for your reply ,i would`nt expect your fishing location for Bass ,but a PM would be nice Ha Ha - but even a Cod would be nice to take back for Tea - otherwise its the Dolphin Chippy on the main street (AGAIN) Ha Ha for Supper

How can i put this so it makes sense? i think you cease to become a novice when you are about to read something and so far through the article you can aticipate what the end result maybe or can fully understand what the subject is about.

Somehow, what i have wrote may not make sense to some, but i know what i mean, sorry!
