Hello lads - went up today for a sesh. Paid my £22 and started at the Bay of Plenty. The water surface was a nightmare due to the wind and it was very wavey, After a couple of hours decided on going to Pow Hill and ledgered using power bait-no luck. 3pm came and the wind died so i headed back to Bay of Plenty. 5:30 came then i caught 2 Rainbows-kept one and a lipped one went back.

Black fritz was the lure today.
And it was very cold.

hi mick well done for your effort, ive seen me start off in one spot and get nothing then go elsewhere then finally go back to where i started and bag up sometimes by simply changing flys and depths the derwents a very big place so well done on finding a couple of fish early season with it still being a little cool. if your back over the next month stick with your lures, black or orange fritz sometimes with a blob pattern on the top dropper 4 to 5 feet from your point fly fished on a intermediate line varying the retreive these tactics are my own preference however but fishing up there for many seasons it has seldom let me down early season. regards & tight lines korky..
