Diesel engine coolant temp????

Anyone know what the usual running temp of the coolant in a diesel engine is????

I searched the interweb and found one article that said between 70 & 85 degC, does that sound right???
 
Dont ask me i just had mine at boiling point the other day lol

Yer thats about right Keith or so my Nanni book says anyway, having problems like?
 
on the way back down from scotland we running about that, stuck pretty much bang on 70 all the way, that was on a 30 hour run. ticking over it never gets over 40
 
Aye, we think it's sorted now, it was the head gasket.

Scrounged a thermocouple, 10M cable and a gadget that connects to my Fluke from work to monitor the temp more closely.

Cheers Norman, that's even more assuring.

We gave her a good run on saturday, and although the heat exchanger was hot, Bert (who aint got hands that do dishes) could still stick his finger in the water. :D
 
depends on the engine some new more efficient engines (hdi)will run at 70 all day the older diesels 90 all day and warm up quicker
 
Well we bunged a thermocouple in the heat exchanger and blasted out to the ling wreck yesterday morning, the temp never rose above 70 degC all morning, so it looks like job done :D:D

Just need the fish to turn up now. :)

Dont you mean thermostat, not thermocouple unless you wanted a pilot light to stay on....pleased the boats okay though
 
I scrounged a K-type thermocouple and a gadget that plugs into my multimeter so we could monitor the temp, we just left the cap off the exchanger and dangled the thermocouple in the water.
