Digging at Boulmer

Just to let you know.....One of our lads was down checking the sea state at Boulmer yesterday (he has a caravan down there)and was stopped by the Police on the way down to the beach. He was politely informed that they will be enforcing the Byelaw that exists there and will prosecute anyone caught digging out fo the clearly marked boundaries!
Bout time!

What happens at night - cant see many of the police wanting to be patrolling the area then - might be wrong ,but cant see it happening

dont quote me but? and it is a but?
this happened last year and the police did arrest anglers for digging at boulmer, however alnwick districk council had no alternative but to end the cases against the said anglers as the high court in london ruled thet the magna-carter gave the right to fish so you had the right to collect the bait to fish.the bye-law should be no longer effective?hence dont quote me on this.what was said and meant by the signs at the above mentioned was meant to be a happy meediam between anglers who dig for bait and those anglers who have boats up their.and you must agree you wouldnd like some one digging at the edge of the road so as to cause danger to you or your property.just give some thought when digging this side leave room for the guys to get their boats out by tractor without the fear of injury or damage.you all no what happened to buddle bay( that bye law is nearly up and their is also some loop holes in the law regarding that area but that is something else indeed.)you dont want this to happen to boulmer.iam am guilty of sneaking over the other side when the worms are scarse and gather quite a few are.i for one dont do it anymore and always did back fill all holes after use and they were small holes just got enough to fish with, yes i no its no excuse.so be warned before their is no more.as in posts before their is some debate to what an officer will and wont arrest! just take some time out when asked your name by the guys as they are only doing a job, most of them fish and dig around here also.oh forgot to answer if it does get stopped were will the worms come from?there are only so many abroad and maybe their maybee a short fall of this if they take the same approach as sea-bait who now puts 90% of their worms out to other countries for fish meal.just to think they receaved hundreds of thousands of pounds in grants.and yet they too have shafted the common angler, the moral is dont do on to others what you wouldnt do on to yourself?

Well if I\'m down there on a night time I ain\'t got a problem with taking number plates and phoning the bizzies to come down! No ones saying you can\'t dig at Boulmer, just respect the locals and don\'t dig out side of the boundaries. Simple as!

unfortunately every angler thinks that the Magna Carta gave evryone the right to dig bait anywhere, it does not and restrictions can be made. Bait digging can be stopped in certain circumstances and Boulmer is one, if bait digging continues beyond the line it will eventually be stopped.

Was down at Boulmer last night (coastguard training) and the boys in blue were down. They had just taken the names and details of 4 people digging in front of the boats and informed them to move back out of the illegal area. Told me that if they started digging in fornt of the boats again they would be lifted and obviously now have their details in case they try to dig there again.

Found out last night there is a great deal of concern about the diggers not abiding by the agreement. We managed to stop a total ban last time, this time it will not even be worth putting up an arguement. The few will destroy it for the many, look at Budle Bay, lost forever because of a few idiots.
