Digi Camera\'s - Opinions?

Okay, so after over a years hard slog at work I got pulled to one side on Friday and told I\'m getting a nice bonus payment, most of it is going to pay off a couple of big bills, but I\'m slipping a couple of hundred to one side for a new digital camera....

Currently we\'ve got a Fuji Finepix 1.3 megapixel, it\'s served us well for about 4 years, but it\'s showing it\'s limitations a lot at times... I quite fancy the Fuji Finepix S5500 - 4 megapixel, 10x Optical Zoom yada yada.. Anyone got one of these camera\'s or know if they\'re a good buy?

me dad had that s5500.

had it two weeks took it on holiday and it fucked up after two days lol
gutted we were.

we cudnt get it out of viewing the pics to take another pic so that was f**ked so he\'s got a new one now

erm. a will get back to u on what it is lol

If you go onto www.dpreview.com there are lots of forums on there that you can get a vast of info from and stuff to learn from.

depending on how much you want to spend... it would be worth looking at olympus and nikon (poss second hand dslr) cost a bit more but worth the money for the results you get..

cheers john

I got one. Image quality is great, but the only thing I don\'t like about is the focus lock, when you press the shutter there\'s a small delay before the image is captured as the autofocus locks down. Not a problem unless you try to photograph a moving target - Its almost impossible.

Getting a new one shortly because of it, even though I\'ve only had it a few months

the autofocus is also pants in low light

Iv\'e got the Fuji FinePix A204. Excellent camera. Not sure about moving targets as I havn\'t needed to. It has loads of different settings, But as I am not doing it for a living only use a couple.

Thanks for that link John (and the comments from people who have the camera).. The 5500 isn\'t listed on dpreview, but the other models are and they all seem to have quite good reviews. My little finepix 1.3 does a good job upto to a point but what it really lacks is any zoom for when we\'re out and about - I took a load of pictures at Tynemouth Priory yesterday and the close ups are great, the distance shots though are pretty crappy.

I\'ll be keeping the little 1.3 for general use, going to have a closer look at some of the newer models today though - my bonus is mostly spoken for clearing my bank overdraft and paying off a small loan, the remainder with a few quid chucked in will just stretch to the cost of the camera...

I\'ll let you guys know how I get on, cheers! :-)

Cheers Alan (and everyone else).. I *had* decided on the s5500, but when I had a shop around I found that the s7000 was being sold off at one place to make way for the new model, so I ended up with the s7000 down from £349 to £229 (cheapest i could find the s5500 for was £210)... Well chuffed with it so far after a brief play this evening :-)

Think it\'s going to take me an entire month to read through the manual mate.. the thing has more buttons than Cadburys :-)
