Disgraced at fishing gear snobs.

mate, do you catch fish?
are you happy getting some fresh air... is your gear good enough to get you out past the snags or into the fish... just throw the middle finger up at them guys.

I remember when i was 16/17 fishing the end of shields pier and older blokes used to almost bully you into where you where fishing rather than helping... while others where only too kind to help. Bob patter for all bad and good things said he was one who offered the most help to young'ns on the peir. I remember out fishing alot of people, matching or beating casting distances and straighter than many older more experienced fishermen... not all though :)

Hope your not put off by your encounter mate,
Regards, Ryan

I bought good gear but always come back to my nemesis+ which is battered to say the least.
I would never dream of taking the **** out of someone else's gear though, or someone who is just getting back into fishing or a newbee to the sport. there are some complete cocks out there though!!!

Just bear one thing in mind mate, much of the fishing tackle produced today is designed to catch anglers; not fish. If those guys have been suckered into parting with wallet fulls of cash for the latest "Must Have" gear; who's the idiot?

Are they trying to say that a rod that was top of the range 20 years ago and used to catch loads of fish is suddenly not good enough to catch anything? Hmmm! I beg to differ. I fish with an old Diawa WKT13MF which probably attracts some sniggers behind my back; but it's still bringing in fish.

Knowing where to fish and under what conditions is way more important than the rod and reel you use. And this is only gained through trial and error. Get out there fishing with whatever gear it is that you have; ignore all the Human Fish that have been caught and laughed at by the tackle manufacturers; and don't be afraid to try something different.

I once fished on the Cambois hot water outfall many years ago for Bass; I forgot to put my white redgills in my bag so I cut up a piece of white carrier bag about 8" long and stuck it on a hook. People were sniggering all around me but they stopped when I landed the 8 1/2 pounder. And I refused to give them a piece of my carrier bag!!

its not the top of the range tackle etc that catches fish i carnt afford to buy every new rod and reel thats new out rod i use now ive had for maybe 3 seasons and it does the job for me and doesnt stop you pulling fish in if it gets a bit tatty or needs a few eyes done i wont go out to buy another rod i can get it repaired either by myself or get the whole job done local from a rod builder like siad recent they just tackle tarts that probs dont even produce fish them selfs

hi kenny, had exactly the same experience in very well established tackle dealer. felt very uncomfortable asking for advice in front of the local heroes. went to same dealer for years and put a lot of money in his till. finally had enough and stopped using shop. started using other local dealers and found them very friendly and always willing to give advice. his loss not mine. tackle dealers should recognise this puts new anglers off and in the end result in lost trade. most local fishermen are salt of the earth, dont let a few plebs put you off the sport. good luck mate.

Aye, ya always find these parasites hanging around at the tackleshop counters, ya get up to the counter and then deathly silence. Can be quite intimidating if u are new to the sport or are unsure of exactly what u need, Always the same crack as well, "should of went here, Should be going there, I know everything" thats why i'm standing in a shop!
A quick snap kick to the knee, would have put these f***ers in their place!

Do you mind if i ask what they were laughing at.
It seems like they must be idiots.
When i got back to fishing i started out with a £50 beachaster and a £40 Abu 7000 off e-bay. My box was from Argos. My waterproofs was my Bergause coat which i walk the dog in.
Over the last four years i have bought some good stuff as i enjoy the sport. I now have a Century Tip Tornado at just under £300 and Penn Supermag at £150. I have bought a Sundridge Floatation suit and loads of other stuff.
In fact i often lend reels out i have collected to lads on fishing trips.
Keep your chin up and just ignore them.
Best wishes Mick.

ive had afew people looking at my gear too mate,i had a home made wooden rod rest and people thought it was hilarious when they walked past!.ive sort of upgraded my gear a bit now but wouldnt lower myself to take the ****,you gotta start somewhere. tight lines!!!!:D:D:D

Personally I've never ever asked for any advice over a tackle shop counter, I try to make sure I know exactly what I want before entering. The best way to do this is by either talking to guys when fishing where general conversation can sometimes give good info, going on sites like this or reading sea angling magazines. I'm not saying the originator of this thread did ask for any advice off these to****s, it's just a general view on the subject.

Some great advice and positive knowledge!

A look from the other side............

A look from the other side............

Unbelievable.!!!!!!!!!

So a angler that loves his sport, buys the best gear he can afford, meets in tackle shops and talks about fishing...................is...a

Tackle tart.

got the gear but doesnt know how to use it.

A snob.

Looks down on other anglers.

These anglers are just the same as anyone else,in fact its the other way round..its you that's looking and thinking they are talking about you,.. no... they be doing what they like to do and talk about fishing, new gear on the market, what been catching and where, because these angler are mad about there sport....nowt else.

I agree there is a click of anglers in all tackle shops that meet regular, but the last think they be wanting to do is ridicule fellow angler...

Hmmmm still, why take the pi** why eh? There were a few of them and it's not the best impression for a starter now is it? I'm buying the best gear I can afford! Just coz it wasn't Abu Garcia or Greys. Tell you what they were takin the pi88 out of!

I've bought a 2pc thermal suit and the make is Stillwater I got it at a great deal from the Glasgow angling center and so far it's been great!

I could hear them clear as day saying "Haaa Stillwater Stillwater fu%$ing ****e what the fu*ks Stillwater hahahah.

They took the fu$*5ing **** from the moment I entered the shop! So thats OK so then lets see.....TACKLE TART = BULLY?

So you had a bad experience in one tackle shop with what you say a few people.

So now you class them all the same in all shops,in most cases if you new to the sport its a good idea to go and talk and ask for advice from what you call tackle tarts...you might get a surprise to find they will be most helpful and try to tell you the best gear to buy for the budget you have.
