Dodgy Adverts

been a board upgrade. It can now automatically detect your sexual preferences and deliver ads accordingly....

so what are you then?? fat lasses, arabs, gaymosexuals or horses??

No - not just you, Ell, m8...............I know it makes money for the site owner - but it's the ONE thing I've grown to really loathe about the NESA site.....it's not just a recent thing, if I rememer rightly, it all started happening a couple of "site changes" ago.......... just seems to have really taken a front seat in recent times...........also - the "comments on NESA articles" dedicated section.......it's all just adverts !!..........there was always a place for such things on here......it asll just seems to have gone daft of late :(

Err mine are bit on the gay side - also "Contact Single Arabs" I seem to remember.

Can they really tell I'm a lemon masquerading as geezer wrapped up in a bloke like exterior :red:

its putting me off using the site i dont want that crap popping up and it will put alot of parents off letting juniors join the site

Agree with that Ray. I had NESA set as my homepage but since the 'odd' ads started popping up I've changed homepage to a different site. Not risking my kids popping on t'internet and inadvertantly clicking on one of these ads.
Shame when money dictates, fully understand it though, just a shame.

Spoilt the whole site if you ask me
Isnt it all about Fishing !
Well i suppose someone has to pay the bill, but not so much inyaface!

It seems to be working - I just get adverts for trout flys:cool: Maybe it has sussed me out as being an auld trout :o:o:o

is it just my PC settings or has anyone else started getting pop ups warning that this site may be "PHISHING" - it has never happened before ,while i have been logged on or not - and i have not changed any settings at my end

Not happeneing on mine Bri, maybe summit to do with your antivirus / spyware program?.

I agree about the adverts, also the "Comments on NESA Atricles" section is supposedly for discussion about articles from the NESA homepage, yet all I ever see is links to Ebay auctions (over 4000 threads in a very short time). What makes it worse, when you actually follow the links to the item on ebay the auction has ended.

but......

If the adverts / links are necessary to keep the site running we'll just have to live with them.

i can see the need for adverts for fishing related stuff but what next links to hardcore porn sites this used to be a site you wouldnt mind your kids looking at.

Dont seem to get any of these adverts on my system, but then I have just invested in this monster of a computer with so much anti spam and security in it ( it got that bloody vista ) its sometimes hard even to get my e-mails.

I'm finding actually getting connected to the site in the first place a bigger problem - I very rarely manage to access it first time these days and then getting from the front page into the forum takes forever. Once I'm actually into the forum though, everything seems to run OK.

I also always used to use the New Posts thingie as my bookmark but the new Comments on NESA Articles forum has buggered that up unless I really want to pick through a dozen pages of old eBay ads before I see anything posted by an actual human being…

Moan, moan, grumble, grumble etc.

Agree with what everyone is saying ..nesa used to be a top site and its been well and truly cashed in on ..a mate of mine is into affiliate marketing and voucher chord sites etc he had a look at the site and reckons its advertising overkill and the owner is making a killing off it :(..remember the good auld days of get togethers and appetising catch reports without the in your face adverts..hmmmm I miss the old nesa :(!!!!!!!!!!!

Having prob's hitting the main site, forums seem okay though.
As for the adverts, I'm seeing about 95% fishing related, a couple of game adverts, insurance stuff, only slightly dodgy advert is for some Scottish gay fitness thing but there's nothing porno on it. The ad's look to be mostly google so presumably like the ones on gmail they'll target keywords/subjects, some possibly using cache info (ie stop looking at porn and clear your cache, cookies and temp files and it should sort it out!)....

I'm just hoping the ones seeing the dodgy adverts are on home machines, lest their gaffers find out what else they seem to be browsing if the ad's are being triggered by other content/site visits! ;)

I'm having probs getting in - long wait then often this "MDB2 error" pain in the patoodies

I get this screen message all the time...

Pain in the a$$ to be blunt...as to the adverts there were some real dodgy ones the other week :o Also agree with what's been said about the "Comments on NESA Articles" part of the forum...waste of space really

Admittedly these sites have to be paid for somehow - this site isn't as bad as others - the Sea Angler one frequently crashes on load up, more than likely due to the massive amount of advertising and fancy imagery...

I read somewhere that Net Surfers are becoming more and more savvy and if a site starts messing them about IE long loading times, excessive adverts etc then they simply go elsewhere...like others already have by the sound of things
