anybody use a dongle, thinking of getting one, pref pay as you go, any thought chaps. No doubt keith will find somewhere that they actually pay you to use theres.

I would avoid the dongles i know a few friends that thought it was a good idea at the time now they are in dispute with the ISP because of very poor connectivity and signal, they vowed never again.

I'm sure I've paid my Mrs somewhere along the line to use my dongle. Seem to recall though that she moaned about it having insufficient bandwidth and the connection dropped when trying to plug it in sometimes :red:

I use one for work as I am out and about a lot. It is from 3 and came free with the macbook I got at Christmas time. I haven't had any bother with it and have used it as far afield as Arisaig with no problems and I really didnt expect to get a signal there!

It is pay as you go but I haven't had to top it up yet. No idea how long this "credit" will last but I am not complaining seeing as it cost me nowt:D

cheers everybody, I know Alan skinner now uses one and sends me reports and photos direct from his boat and dosn't have any probs. Will have a good look round, pardon my ignorance Pottsy, what's 3 and where can I find it. Cheers Keith knew you would come up with something.

Friend uses one as a backup because her phone line is naff at times, but she wouldn't rely on it regularly. I only use my home wireless and bluetooth ones personally.

what mobile phone have you got alan? You may well have the answer in your pocket already.

tethering - using a mobile phone that has 3g as 'modem' if you like to access the internet from a laptop/desktop

i have a t-mobile dongle and they are very good however the data allowance only grants you 2gb allowance which isnt that much however if you go over this allowance you are not charged extra and they don't stop you going on the Internet, they just stop you from downloading large files. also to start you off you pay £2 for 30 days and also the help and support from t-mobile is second to none

I will be after a pay as you go as don't invisgae using it very much.

Does anyone offer genuine pay as you go, ie, where you only pay for what you use, like you do with mobiles? When I was looking round a while back, PAYG in Dongleland actually seemed to mean one-month contracts and if you didn't use all the gigs you'd paid for that month, you lost them.

That said, if you're going to be a light user but you'd be using it most months, then that Three deal that Pottsy mentioned looks like it would be as cheap a way of doing it as any.

Have found that as well, either one, two, or three month then you loose them, not pay as you go realy.
