Great place to fish in a great part of the North East. Shame the Ars*holes of the sea angling fraternity visit there and turn it into what there homes must be like Sh*t Bins.
Wondered myself how long it will be, before English Heritage & The National Trust place a ban on sea anglers passing through their property or even being on their land. Its a knocking bet that not only the land the castle sits on but also the surrounding land all belongs to them.
Would fish the castle through out the seasons,But got totally sick of picking up bag after bag of the Ars*holes rubbish. I havent been for a good while now and after seeing the photo and report I guess I wont be, Really makes my Blood Boil.
I for one would be in total favour if English Heritage & National Trust took action and banned sea angling from all their land and it wouldnt just end at Dunstanburgh Castle I believe they own quite abit of the country.

Great catch and pics mate well done, plus well done on clearing some of the ar--hole's rubbish they left, and totally agree with you big sid.

Yeah its the same every year mate, and its not just there it'll happen throughout the summer at the popular marks. Well done on your catch

Shields pier is a proper dump.... if I see another chav throwing beer cans about along with left over Greggs pasties then im gonna combust!!!!!!:mad::mad: Roll on Autumn when they can all go and hibinate again untill next summer!

A few year ago i fished the back of the castle late April, i arrived early say around 6.30AM. There to greet me a tent with 20 ish empty cans of lager all around the place, also discarded food packaging. As i got further down to the rocks i met up with the 3 lads who this belonged to. I was on my own so said nowt ( it's a long way back with any broken bones) but asked them how the fishing had went. My answer back was, "it was ok but we just got ****ed". At this time they were packing up and one lad was off away up though the hole in the wall with no gear. Strange thing to do so i asked has he not been fishing, "oh aye but he is away to get the car". I said "what about the gates". One lad replies " that's ok, he will just lift them off the hinges". At that i just said good bye and went off fishing.
Later that day one of the castle staff came down onto the rocks and just before he started giving me grief i told him the story. I ended up clearing most of the mess away even though it was not mine.
I am surprised that they have not stopped people fishing there yet but only if the big keep gates are closed this will happen because the place is empty. Early morning no one their to stop you getting in.

i fish up around the caravan park at eyemouth a lot in the summer its the same up there crap all over the place its the one thing that really p@#sses me off don't mind people drinking as long as they take there rubbish home with them

Im constantly picking up other peoples sh!te. Always the same rubbish, beer cans, feather packets, tab packets nd biscuit wrappers. I always try to go to the quieter marks but if one of these scum has a car, nowhere is out of bounds. Didnt there used to be a fine for littering? Maybie the coppers could make some money fining the idiots instead of picking on motorists.

Well said a couple of plain clothes would make a fortune certain times of the year on most peirs and easy marks just might drop that suggestion to my cuz whos a enviromental coppa ! for north east !!

Fished there quite alot lately , seen people getting p@@sed up, cans everywhere,
Rig packaging ect. Ive filled bin bags , thing is they pass a bin on the way out, what is wrong with these people , its there country and a beautiful part of the country at that, just cant understand why they dont give a sh%t. Or do they know mugs like me who respect the countryside will clean up after them. I hope they do ban fishing there even though i do enjoy the mark. Cullernose is the same .. I would say something, but i know it will end up in violence and fighting on rocks just isnt my thing. I fish to chill and enjoy this beautiful country..Anyhow ill stop moaning now, just been boiling my p@ss for the last couple of weeks..

I have fished this mark for quite few years now as I live nearby and can only agree with comments on rubbish. I for one have seen a marked increase in rubbish and the popularity of this mark. And as with any mark that becomes popular the choosen few will spoil it. I use to fish this mark many a time with me been the only one there and have a good understanding with the wardens there. I for one would love this spot to be a pay for entry if only to kerb the rubbish.
It seems that peaceful clean spots in north northumberland are becoming a thing of the past and I for one am taking to the Kayak where I can find my own peace.

There rant over

George...............

I agree totally lads, i took my gf fishing for mackerel (her first time from rocks) not too long ago, she beat me (as allways) but when we were there there was anglers just dumping their crap allover, cans, plasic from feathers, hooks << (Saved my gf from doing some damage) and all the crap you can imagine. Im im honest i think national trust should stop anglers from cutting through the castle and have to do the dunstan steads walk, it might deter arrogant anglers that believe because its out of the way then noone cares.

Ive been fishing there for 4 years now, and ive seen it progressivley get worse and worse. Everytime i go there i actually do take bin bags, and bring on average 2 full ones back. Also when i was there i was greeted with 70+ mackerel lying on the rocks dead somone had caught them took them off the hook and left them. Now that is the one thing i can't stand. I take a t-bar there with me so if im releasing mackerel i dont actually touch them. As ive heard this causes them bother, but to see a massacare like that was just disapointing. You guys wonna know the icing on the cake? Somone had took a **** on one of the mackerel, we got there i seen it and i turned back and went somewhere else. Was awful :/

We went further north to st abbs instead, which i can say is looking well looked after :) So thank you :)

Can you actually get onto the rocks without cutting through the castle?.
i think the castle should put a small charge in place like a couple of quid if people want to cut though. that might deter a few.

Valid point but I think if it happened then we would be looking at a lot of places wanting to charge us to deter littering bongheeds.

Also you can get there without going through the gates. come from the north and up the hill to the side. straight though without having to pass the gates... that's another reason it wouldn't stop people littering.. they'd drop from the north instead.

Coming from the north you should still go through the main gate, every year the warders have to repair the fence due to people climbing over, dont get me wrong i have also been guilty of this but no doubt still p****s the wardens off, totaly agree with a charge at the gate and would also provide an alternative revenue for the up keep of this magnificent castle.

fished up there on sunday from 3.30am till 1.00pm the place was a mess but not as bad as Ive seen it in the past must of been you lot tidying up me and my mate where on our own for about an hour then it started to fill up and the chavs turned up about 10 am as there was not much room they had to fish further up the cliff till they seen all us pulling in macky first a ginger chav came down and forced his way in next to me after a few casts I heard a shout of f##k me that was massive what the f##k was that he had briefly hooked a macky next thing we knew they were all down casting over me and other people after that i devised a plan with my mate and every time we hooked a fish we made a point of saying they were right under our feet the result was they all cast short and got snagged lost gear and tangled afer about half an hour they had run out off daylights think a old bloke gave them a pack but nobodyelse did when we left they were sharing one rod till we heard the loudest crack as the daylights headed to norway:D
