Competition was an awayday down to Sandsend nr to Whitby with a canny turnout considering the conditions and the 1hrs drive.Fishing was between 1600hrs and 2000hrs with high tide around 1900hrs.
Upon arriving at the beach,it was hard to open the car door against the strong North Westerly that was blowing.Water was fairly flat with a small lazy roll but with plenty of colour. The rain that was expected hadnt arrived yet,so it was down onto the beach to a spot that I had been tipped off about with the others examining the sand banks that were visible whilst looking for the deeper water.
Upon setting up the gear and securing the rod stand with rocks that Hadrian would of been proud of,the lot got blown over by a mini Hurricane resulting in me running down the beach collecting gear resembling, Rocky running after Chickens....!!
Was into fish from the start landing some nice Whiteys all just under the 1lb mark,Changed tactics and tried a few live crab baits looking for a nice bass that I had been told might be present but the Whiteys just got there first,so went back to the Flapper rigs trying to go for the heavist bag.
At the end of the Comp had a bag of 19 whiteys and 2 nice dab for a weight of 12lb 9oz,with those that could be,being returned.
But again I didnt take the money, with Henderson taking the cash with a cracking bag of 23 Whiteys and a nice Flounder for a nice bag of 17lb 5oz.
I had to buy and collect his bait for him,I gave him some mackeral and sandeel from my freezer and I took him down in my car. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE. The lager in the Beach Hotel after the comp by its log fire was well earned.
