just gettin back in there from an early morning seshion up at st abbs on a mark known as wrasse island.
this was the first time me wayne and steve had attempted this mark, infact the first time steve has been to abbs so he was in for a rite shock when he saw what we were going down
anyway after negotiating our way down here around rocky outcrops over 150 feet up and jumping gaps onto to islands etc(hopefully youve got the idea
) we were finally down.
we got set up firstly for the pollock with spinners, artificials and frozen sand eels and were straight into mackeral from the first cast
however this soon became a bit easy, all methods were taking fish to the point were it was very unusual to real in without one.
i think i was the first to try for the wrasse with ragworm over the the left of the island, steve put a float on with a whole sand eel,and wayne carried on like a big kid with the mackeral for another hour or so.
the wrasse didnt want to make life easy at all,i waited for about half an hour before my first knock, and after another 5 mins of plucking at the bait it was on but snagged me up straight away and i snapped off
this then happened to me another two times before wayne joined in and had a go for them, only for the same thing to happen to him once or twice, but he did eventually get one to the surface which was witnessed by myself estimated at three pounds ish,but it came off lifting it the last few feet so it didnt count
then steve hooks into a better fish on the float and pulls a nice looking pollock to the surface which i had to clamber down and land with the net.
somewhere near 5lbs
this was the only fish worth taking a photy of as we didnt land any more pollock or wrasse for the rest of the day.
the mackeral were there all day tho and everytime a spinner was cast off the front then one was hooked,i also managed a coalie around the pound mark and that was about it.
we cut the seshion short around 10.30 as the rain was starting on and off and you dont want to climb off these marks when its wet
i manged a few pics of the surrounding area from our spot tho, just so you get the idea of the climbs and ground conditions
firstly the gulley to the left/north of the island
a shot of the rocks and cliffs to the south
one lookinjg back up to the light house some 200 or so feet up
and lastly some of the climb back up,it doesnt look that bad on the photy and i suppose we got up and down without to much difficulty, but its not for the faint hearted, ive fished loads of marks around here and the first bit of this climb is one of the toughest mentally
