Easy access marks.

With Clare wanting to fish the upcoming comp can anyone recomend anywhere other than the piers or the groyne for fishing.

I had just planned on fishing the groyne....especially with Boblydon winning the last comp from there. :D

She\'ll not be one for clambering over the rocks so that\'s a non starter...although a beach mark may be ok as long as it\'s not too much of a hike. :(

Is the gate on Shields pier locked on a night time???

Thought it was mentioned somewhere on here before that you had to climb around it. If so that\'ll rule the pier out. :casstet:

Any help appreciated.

Ian,
The Groyne is easily accessible.....BUT....it is a graveyard for tackle.

I know there\'s quite a few who like fishing from there, I\'m not one of them....lol

The small beach (between the Groyne and the Pier) also has easy access. This beach fishes pretty well at times and doesn\'t need a big cast to put you into water of some depth. A couple of good spots along there are;
1. towards the Pier end of the beach, theres an old pipe outfall - staying roughly in line with that as you follow the tide down the beach, has nearly always been productive for me.

2. from there, going North along the beach and heading towards the Groyne, you\'ll come to a big concrete wall. Fishing in line with this wall is also a good spot.

The ground out from there is pretty clean and there should be no problems with snags. Having said that, it can get a bit \"weedy\"at times.

Lastly....yep, the pier gate is locked at night.

if you fish from the pier at the landward end, and before the gate, you should be able to hit the above from the comfort(!) of the concrete and you\'ll only be about 50 yards from the car park! I\'ve only fished there once and it was ok, but it seems to attract anglers quite often when I\'ve been trudging down to the pier end, so I guess its probably a pretty good mark, and If a saddo like me can catch there I guess anyone can!

since we\'ll be fishing over low water two good places to try are whitburn beach in front of morrisons, easy access, not many snags but must have a sea running the bigger the better, not noted for big cod but good catches of fish to 3lb with the odd better one.
the other mark is roker beach on the seaburn side of roker pier, fish approx 150yds along from the pier, very rough tackle hungry ground mind but produces good cod every year upto 10lb. the only time worth fishing here is over low water with a south easterly running, if the winds northerly forget this mark as it will be weeded out. you only need a shortish cast here 60 - 70 yds put you in the fish !

I agree, Mark...... you could eaily fish the same spot from the pier instead of the beach.....but..... as Micky says, the comp will be held over Low Water and going off from the pier at that spot would make it VERY difficult to bring your line back in (if not impossible).
