they normally stay well off but yesterday when starting their mating rituals they came quite close in and I managed to get these

Lovely clear pics Alan. I always associated Eider ducks with a drab brown colour. The males look almost like a different species with the head and beak shape, not to mention their ' Sunday Best ' plumage :D

There's plenty at Amble in the harbour and marina, quite tame, at times they feed out your hand, should be easy to get a good photo.

Great Photos Alan,
I love watching the Eiders up at Seahouses when I'm up at the van. They make a very soothing sound when they're together....a sort of gentle whooping call. There's quite a few in the harbour and around the "tumblers".
The locals call them "Cuddy Ducks" after the name of "St Cuthbert" who liked the ducks so much he imposed a protection order on them.

Regards Ian

Ian when I got home i wished I had videoed them as well, calm day, hardly any wave noise and they where cooing and whooping all the time, next time I hope
