Fish \"n\" Strips??

Just wondering if anybody has tried these and (obviously) if they are any good? Seems a lot easier than mothering peelers in the fridge, or ordering bait in advance to find the day unfishable, or am I just getting old? (domesticated?) Also, whats the difference between the white and green ones? (apart from the colour that is!) :D

Hi Idont want to appear stupid but why change a habbit of a life time! whats fish\'\'n\'\'strips ? please reply with words of two symbols or less so I can know wot yous are talking about like.. cheers :casstet: White/ green. Wots happening.. SORRY, Ihave heard about them but what exactly are they/them ???all information greatfully accepted :D

they are an artificial bait in strips, inch long half inch wide or so, flourescent green or white (i think the white ones are supposesd to be lug flavour???)

like cardboard then go sort of gelatinous (sorry lots of syallables there) in salt water and last for ages.

Sea angler raved about them a while back, done sod all for me though, although I\'ve not really give em a proper go yet

Billy has both in stock I believe

apparently they do work...

for flatties ,whiting etc

cant see them working for sizeble cod unless you put a whole pack of them on ya hook :P

each bait is suppost to last for 1hr 20 mins on the hook in which time you could have 3-4 cast

keep meaning to try some meself

macky ;)

Cheers for the input lads. I suppose my best bet is to get a packet of each and try them out. I seem to remember a lad posting a picture of a large bass caught on these a while back on the old site? Anyhow I\'ll post my results and let you know :D

Hi Rob.
I think that they are meant as a stand-by in case you run out of real bait. Various articles Ive read state that they could never hope to replace natural baits but are o.k. to keep in the tackle box should you ever run short of the real thing.

Cheers.

gag1 :D :D :D

Cheers for the info,, do you have to keep then in the fridge/freezer, or do you just open them when needed? also whats the cost, do they come in 1/2 doz packets or what.... seems as some say a good back-up if you run out of bait but at what cost,,, Cheers Tich

I\'m sure they were advertised in this months sea angler for about £8-9 quid. Come down a bit since they were first mentioned

fish strips are £9.00 pkt and i know of anglers who have caught flatties and codling on them each pkt is the same as 100 worms they do not need to be put in a fridge and come in a reseable bag and can be left in your tackle box each strip can be used time and time again till it falls to bits they come in green original or the new white, the lug one is still in the testing stage but should not be much longer before it is on the shelf

Cheer for the Info sounds like a canny back up,, must get some next time Im in Shields they can go into my box along with the artificial plastic/rubberlug and the now obligatory pigs liver, cheers lads :)

Frozen velvet swimmers were suposed to be good too... did nowt for me..

But..and this is the truth, and old fisherman once told me to try white tripe , I di, and i was the only one on the boat who caught.. HONEST LADS!!!

Dear chaps I have worked in the butchery trade on & off for25 years on and off.. thers a lot of old guys ,who know me, and also that I fish,a little, well a lot. they all come out with the same sort of \'\'advice\'\' When I used to fish all I used was A....!!!! bit of cooked bacon rind, caught loads; some pigs/lambs/calfs liver...caught loads,, the spinal cord from a lamb, sheep, pig heffer, bull , a castrated bull.. you here them all,, and I\'v tried half of them and caught bu77er all... My Old man used to catch mackeral on a hook with an old milk bottle top wrapped around it!! and a small stone for a weight >>> Yes they most likley did.. I have two thoughts on the matter,,, 40 years ago the North Sea was not as \'fished out as it is now\'\' there was no fish finding gadgets the average trawler just used local information & experience.. fishing the sea/ shore as we do now..... My other thought is if the fish are there , and they are peckish they\'l eat owt , be it a £3.50 spinner or a wee hook with a milk bottle top wrapped around it will catch mackerel It does seem some baits/ lures ect are better than others. but then all of a sudden they seem to die off, why? I think we have all done it, gone to the local takeaway and found something we like alot and have it every Saturday night for 5/6 weeks and then get sick of it.. then we change to something else. Are fish the same??I doubt it but is there some sort of \'\' well I\'v never tried that type of food before I\'ll give it a go, then word gets around the fishy gastronomic circles that this new RoydD snack is a little on the dodgy side. dont bother with it.cos it tends to get you into a frying pan\'\' then the lads come up with a new type of bait &it lasts for a few months or so then word gets \'round and they leave it alone,,, then again am I just as stupid as the fish?? all comments will be greatfully ignored,, just like my bait Cheers :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: ;) Tich :)
