Any recommendations on a decent bag or box? Gonna get a new one in the next couple of weeks for the winter coming in. Was gonna get a shakespeare box but not totally sure yet. Thanks lads.

Sean.

If you walk a far distance to your marks a bag is much easier and comfy when full. But if you like a seat while you fish a box is your best bit I find a bag much easier as I don't sit down when fishing unless on a beach. I found using a bag when using a tri pod good as you can hand your bag on it to weight it down on the rocks

sound advice, have used a rucksack since 85,two hands free and much easy tramping over rocks. davy.

Ive got a Shakespeare box and like most angles probably like myself i pile everything into it apart from the kitchen sink which makes it shoulder aching carrying it to a mark haha so bare in mind if your buying a box just buy a small medium sized one so it doesnt get full of junk :D

Love my Beta Box with the Breakaway back rest fitted. Well balanced and easy to carry, I've lugged mine the four miles each way over the shingle to fish the Aerials at Aldbrough in Suffolk no bother.

Not so good for rock hopping mind and not the cheapest but definitely (IMHO anyway) the best for beaches and piers

I've got a Shakespeare beta box and the Sherpa carrying harness and it's the mutts
Doesn't feel heavy to carry once strapped on even if its full up :)

To be honest I've never had to walk miles to fish or anything I've just got out my car and straight to the spot lol. I like the look of those Shakespeare bags like, are they ok size wise etc? I was gonna head over go outdoors and have a look in there as they seem to have a massive collection on there site.

If your fishing out the car I would go with the box, I don't drive myself so I use the salt rucksuck, its 70litre and holds more than enough for traveling on my bike for me, or walking long distance. Its when its full of fish getting home is the problem, though that doesn't happen very often haha. :D

My son uses a box and finds it very uncomfortable traveling any distance with it when its full.

If you do end up going for a box then get a Sherpa harness or the breakaway conversion, carrying it with just the shoulder strap is a nightmare

Take a look where you fish regularly and look at what people have for gear transport , you'll find the majority have beta boxes with breakaway back rests , but if you have to climb to rock marks ie the end of the mull , a stout rucksack with straps and bungees on to tie your rods to leaving your hands free is a must , best of getting both if possible ,
Horses for courses mate :-)

To be honest lads I only go to my area fishing lol. I do want to go further afield so it may be best to get a bag incase I have to hike to a spot haha

When i started fishing a few months ago I got a Team Daiwa box (the one with the luminous built in tackle tray in the lid)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Team-Daiwa®...UTF8&qid=1376687894&sr=1-4&keywords=Daiwa+box

, I've used it a lot on the beaches and piers, and use a rucksack when fishing off the rocks.

The box is really handy for just chucking stuff in, especially at the end of a session, and it's handy for sitting on, and dead handy when its raining - it's waterproof - went along the pier once in the rain with the rucksack and it got soaked, and everything in it.

Wouldn't recommend the Daiwa box though, if you haven't got much in the main box, the whole thing tips over everytime you open it.

I'm out tomorrow shopping for a new reel, and I'm probably gonna see if I can pick up a Shakespeare Beta, it's a bit bigger and hasn't got the tackle tray (which I don't use anyway).

:)

Then get both, I have Beta Boxes and have the breakaway backrest on one for general shore fishing, and others for other gear storage, but if its for hikes the rucksack is more comfortable, and wins hands down.

I've had both box and rucksack now I only use the rucksack more comfortable and as Phil says I don't sit down much as I'm to busy reeling fish in lol
Mine is a prolific rucksack waterproof and loads of pockets and you have plenty of space

I've got the beta box with breakaway back rest. They are a nightmare without the backrest on and I bought the breakaway cushion for it last week. It makes it even more comfy when carrying it as well.

Its a beta box with breakaway backrest for me, I've tried a few rucksack's, more comfortable but get soacking wet in winter and a nightmare to clean. Boxes are uncomfortable but strong and when you have walked a long way its nice to get a sit down. I regretted getting rid of my box so had to buy another one, girls have ruck sacks men have boxes.!!
